FIGR’s East operating company, on PEI, is fully licensed to produce and sell medicinal and recreational cannabis, while its Ontario operating company has a cultivation license. FIGR’s two operating companies collectively have 44,000 square feet growing capacity, with another 250,000 square feet coming on line in the spring, and another 710,000 square feet planned.

FIGR has distribution in PEI and Nova Scotia, and will gain additional distribution as it increases its supply through third-party arrangements and facility expansion.

Pyxus also has equity stakes in several E-Liquids brand and an equity partnership with Criticality, which has extraction and production expertise in the industrial hemp-derived CBD space.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the President of FIGR, Inc., this new position will serve as a strategic partner to the business teams by developing, implementing, and executing a multitude of HR programs, services, support, and consultation across a wide variety of HR areas, including talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, career development, performance management, employee relations, leadership coaching, and learning and development for a startup business within a resourceful parent company. The Human Resources Director will provide technical guidance to the FIGR East and FIGR Norfolk operations.


Initially, this is a “roll-your sleeves up, hands on” position. The position and the team will evolve and grow significantly over time and the incumbent will be expected to elevate the function to the next level. This position will be extremely varied, demanding, yet highly rewarding as the Human Resources Director will play a major role in shaping employee experiences and driving business results through helping employees, leaders, and teams to be their best. The role will be based in Toronto and will require the ability to work in a fast-paced, increasingly complex environment with quickly-shifting priorities.

What you will do:


  • Create job descriptions
  • Determine the most effective channels for recruiting candidates
  • Recruit and screen candidates
  • Manage applicant and interview logistics
  • Develop and negotiate job offers
  • Develop and manage employee onboarding program and related logistics.
  • Develop and deploy Performance Management program
  • Coordinate employee training and development program planning and execution


  • Develop and administer compensation and benefits programs
  • Administer payroll
  • Manage the execution of the annual compensation program
  • Coordinate the annual salary review process
  • Assure HRIS and other legal compliance
  • Develop and administer HR policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain an employee handbook
  • Set up and maintain employee personnel files
  • Track and provide information to leadership about the changing HR regulatory environment.


  • Provide interpersonal conflict resolution
  • Engage in leadership and staff counseling and coaching
  • Monitor culture development and alignment.
  • Engage legal counsel on organization, leadership or employee policies, procedures, activities and actions that have known or potential legal implications and work with leadership to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare, monitor and adjust the HR budget to best support the work and strategies of the organization.
  • Collaborate with administrative teams at the other FIGR operations to insure high levels of integration so that HR products and services contribute to consistent, high quality processes, procedures and messages across the organization.
  • Model the highest ethical standards in leadership and Human Resource functioning and comply with all regulations and laws.
  • Provide advice and counsel to managers and employees to ensure consistent application and integration of policies, procedures and practices at 100% compliance to promote an ethical and compliant work environment. Serve as the local compliance manager.
  • Manage highly sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis.


Who you are and what you’ve done:

  • Earned a Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business or another related field
  • Bring 5-7 years’ experience in HR and Payroll operations

  • Have extensive knowledge of Human Resources legislation and best practices

  • Possess strong management, interpersonal and human relations skills

  • Excellent communicator with written and verbal communication skills

  • A self-starter with the ability to operate independently

  • Have good broad knowledge of HR/payroll functions, including talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, payroll systems and procedures, employee relations and talent management

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products

  • Possess strong problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Have the ability to use tact and discretion when managing sensitive situations

  • Highly sensitivity to the confidential nature of the work
