The Human Resources Director is responsible for planning, supervising, administering and evaluating all of the Alley’s human resources functions. Areas of primary responsibility include but are not limited to hiring, employee benefits, wage and hour compliance, compensation administration, employee relations, training, workers’ compensation, leaves of absence, performance management, policy and procedure interpretation and execution initiatives on equity, diversity, inclusion, and employment law compliance. Reports to Managing Director.

Oversee all HR functions and ensure that they are completely within federal and state employment law requirements and industry best practice. Work with other appropriate departments for day to day HR activities. Lead a working committee on annual review and redistribution of Policy Manual.

Requirements

Project Management: Able to manage project demands, priorities and timelines as required; Skill in organizing resources.

Interpersonal: Able to interact exceptionally well with a variety of personalities and individuals including staff and members of the Board of Directors.

Confidentiality: Maintains confidentiality and security of staff information as well as Alley’s confidential information.

Communication: Able to communicate comfortably and clearly and work effectively with staff, patrons, board members, high-level donors and vendors by telephone, during in-person situations and in written communications.

Leadership: Able to foster a cooperative work environment; Able to influence others to perform their jobs effectively; Able to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements; Able to maintain composure in difficult circumstances; Able to provide support and leadership to other managers and staff.

Management Responsibilities: Able to organize and direct oneself and have good skills in managing, mentoring, developing and reviewing staff to meet company standards; Skill in examining, improving, and implementing policies and procedures, and developing new strategies.

Knowledge: Has knowledge of legal requirements and government regulations related to human resource management; Remains up to date on employment law, institutional and procedural information. Meets accuracy standards; Able to effectively navigate websites for research and administrative purposes.

Equipment: Has very good skills with computer systems, keyboards, copiers and other standard office equipment; has very good skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Other Requirements: May be required to work on any day of the week including evenings.

Ten or more years of HR and managerial level experience, or a combination of equivalent experience and training.

Knowledge of Federal and State Employment Law.

Ability to deliver high quality customer service to a variety of people including the Managing and Artistic Directors, Senior Managers, Department Heads, Supervisors, Staff and Volunteers.

Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in oral and written communication on an interpersonal or group level.

Skill in identifying and resolving issues including highly charged employment and labor issues.

Skill in assessing, coordinating, and conducting training sessions.

Ability to exercise a high level of professional discretion and confidentiality in handling personnel matters.

Ability to identify and resolve conflicts.

Knowledge of employee benefit issues and the ability to work effectively with benefit brokers and vendors.

Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise employees.

Ability to create and administer compensation and performance management programs.

Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure work is completed in a timely and productive manner.
