General PositionSummary:

Plan, direct, and coordinate human resource management activities of the college to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, personnel policies, and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, administer, interpret and execute employment agreements/contracts.

  2. Assist in identifying staffing vacancies, collaborate on job descriptions and coordinate hiring processes related to employment.

  3. Administer, analyze and modify compensation and benefit offerings for employees.

  4. Drive positive employee relations by educating employees on employee engagement, leadership style, coaching and counseling process, conflict resolution, interpersonal communications and effective team interaction.

  5. Conduct cost benefit analysis for financial impact related to compensation and benefit costs for budgeting purposes.

  6. Annually review and make recommendations to executive council for improvement of the organization’s policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.

  7. Compile various data sets related to personnel as requested by the board, AIMS/AKIS, IPEDS, and others as needed.

  8. Maintain responsibility for organization compliance with federal, state, and local legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.

  9. Design, execute and review employee performance evaluations.

  10. Evaluate, recommend and participate in employee orientation, training, and onboarding to help foster positive attitudes toward organizational goals and objectives.

  11. Coordinate or conduct exit interviews to determine and review the causes behind the separations.

  12. Represent college at personnel-related hearings, trials and investigations.

  13. Other duties and special projects as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree In Human Resources or related field

  • Minimum of three (3) years Human Resources related experience

  • Strong analytical skills, extensive computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Previous demonstrated experience in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to drive culture change


       Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources or related field

  • Minimum of seven (7) years Human Resources related experience

  • Supervisory experience

  • Experience using the Jenzabar software

  • Human Resource Certification


Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Federal, State and tribal statutes, regulations and policies regarding employee rights, principles and techniques of hiring, employee evaluation, and employee orientations

  • Strong judgment, decisiveness, interpersonal skills to work effectively with all employees of the institution

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to lead, instruct and handle a large variety of details

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


       Ability to:

  • learn the college’s ERP software, Jenzabar, as it pertains to HR functions,

  • manage the department budget and professional/employee development funding,

  • implement process improvements and workflow improvements,

  • facilitate employee training through various delivery methods,

  • calculate wages and benefits with a high degree of accuracy,

  • maintain strict confidentiality,

  • interpret, analyze, explain and apply laws and policies

  • serve on, and possibly chair, college committees
