The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS) was founded in 1909 by a group of Seattle builders who saw a need to unite to address the many concerns and issues affecting the housing industry. They shared technology and jointly solved construction problems.

Today, MBAKS is the largest local homebuilders association in the United States. From builders to material suppliers, we are a membership organization that works on behalf of companies in every aspect of the home building industry. Our members continue to take an active role in all facets of home construction in the Puget Sound region and are dedicated to providing a wide range of housing choices, including affordable options for the important first-time buyer market. We are the professional home builders, architects, remodelers, suppliers, manufacturers, and sales and marketing professionals in your community who believe homeownership should be in reach of every American. Who We’re Looking For:

The ideal candidate will be an even-keeled, proactive, problem-solving leader with strong oral and written communication skills and well-developed employee relations skills. You must have a proven track record of providing strategic human resources consultative services to top level executives as well as employee-related support. You are diplomatic, pragmatic, and skilled at analyzing information and resolving challenges to achieve goals. An excellent listener and problem solver, you also have an eye on the big picture suggesting business improvements and ensuring your work is adding value. You should build professional relationships easily with all staff and provide excellent human resources services in every interaction.

More about the role:

The Human Resource Director is directly responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy in support of MBAKS’ vision, mission and strategic goals. This includes talent management, change management, performance management, training and development, and compensation. This position provides strategic leadership by articulating human resource needs and plans to the Executive Director and the senior management team.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and implement HR initiatives that support MBA’s vision, mission and strategic goals.
  2. Annually review and make recommendations to the Executive Director and the senior management team for improvement of the organization's policies, procedures and practices on human resource matters.
  3. Develop HR plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business operations objectives.
  4. Provide leadership and guidance to the Executive Director and senior management team by managing the hiring process, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, and compensation.
  5. Responsible for MBA’s compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all human resources matters.
  6. Communicate changes in the organization's employee-related policies and procedures and ensure that proper procedures are followed by employees.
  7. Assist executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the MBA’s compensation program.
  8. Conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations and reports results of these interviews to the Executive Director and the senior management team.
  9. Consult with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the Chief Operating Officer, on employee matters.
  10. Work directly with department directors and supervisors to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on employee-related matters.
  11. Maintain a human resource information system that meets the organization's employee information needs.
  12. Lead employee committees to promote a fun, dynamic, and healthful working environment for all employees.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree and certification from a recognized accrediting authority (e.g., HRCI or SHRM).
