BAE Systems, Inc, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company is currently recruiting for an HR Business Partner to support labor relations at our Ordinance Systems business located at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant where, BAE Systems is the primary contractor operating the facility. The facility manufactures high quality explosives and propellants on a site that covers approximately 6,000 acres with an employee headcount of approximately 1,100 employees, of which 750 are represented by a collective bargaining agreement between BAE Systems and United Steel Workers (USW).

Summary of Job Description:

Act and serve as the primary HR interface with the Production and Quality teams within Radford Operations focusing primarily on areas of, labor and employee relations, change management, performance management, and employee engagement. Also serve as an HR Liaison in a Shared Service delivery model for most of the following areas; succession planning, talent management, compensation, benefits, EEO, and/or training and development. Drives company-wide HR programs and initiatives. Implements site, business area, and corporate policy.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide coaching and counsel to leaders within Radford Operations.

  • Assist and lead employee and labor relations efforts, to include; investigations, communications, grievance hearings, wage equity hearings, and trainings

  • Lead grievance hearings and represent the company in these hearings

  • Studies, prepares for, and advises on matters pertaining to contract negotiation, grievance cases, arbitrations, conciliations, federal and state labor legislation, etc.

  • Assist in representing management in collective bargaining during contract negotiations

  • Partner with managers and the talent acquisition group to help mediate and expedite the recruiting efforts and process for critical manufacturing and facility roles

  • Assist in the development of HR projects that help drive a culture of diversity and inclusion to drive a culture that supports business growth or business rightsizing and a respectful workplace.

  • Responsible to drive ethical behavior and instill a culture of Safety, Health and Environmental in a chemical explosive environment.


Required Skills and Education 

Education & Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree – preferably in the field of human resource or business

· 5-7 years labor relations experience

Soft Skills:

· Professional and approachable displaying solid interpersonal skills

· Team player that is able to work within a matrix organization

· Good communications to include verbal and written communication

· Customer service skills and the ability to work well within a HR COE/Shared Service model

· Ability to work independently and use good judgement under pressure

· Ability to display a high level of work prioritization and time management and customer follow through

Preferred Skills and Education 

PHR, SPHR or SHRM certification

Master degree
