The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for assisting in the effective implementation of compensation related activities, position description development, FMLA administration, and data maintenance.

                                                                       

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

 

  • Develops standardized position descriptions that reflect the education, experience, job knowledge, and capabilities needed for job analysis, position evaluation, hiring, and performance management.
  • Assists management in developing and implementing organizational and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Provides pay grades and position slotting reports to managers, based on the Sault Tribe’s current compensation schedule.
  • Provides FMLA adjudication and support.
  • Processes and ensures the accuracy of data entered into the HRIS system for all new and current employees.
  • Assists in the development, interpretation, and enforcement of company policies and procedures (to include Tribal ordinances and applicable regulations).
  • Assists with administration of the compensation structure, to ensure internal and external equity for all job positions and pay grades.
  • Maintains and modified pay structure as appropriate, by recommending, planning, and implementing structural adjustments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with the community, visitors, employees, and vendors. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

Requirements

Education: Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or related field required. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.

 

Experience: Two years’ experience working in the Human Resources field required.

 

Certification/License:SHRM certified preferred.Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Solid understanding of employee related topics including: benefits, compensation, recruitment, performance and development, termination, employee relations, and State and Federal labor laws and regulations required. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to communicate with the public and possess strong interpersonal skills and present a professional demeanor in all interactions required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors and the community required. Ability to multi-task as well as work independently and with minimal supervision required. Strong computer background with skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Accountable, dependable, reliable, and customer-oriented required. Ability to make use of time in an efficient and productive manner required. Ability to work and contributes as a “team” player required. Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize required. Ability to deal with stressful situations on the phone as well as in person required. Ability to exercise good judgement and decision making skills required. Basic operation of a workstation (turning on/off, knowledge of basic functions and components) and general office equipment. Use/storage/maintenance of multiple usernames and passwords. Computer-related problem-solving skills through the use of available trainings and help desk required. Must maintain strict confidentiality. Native American preferred.
