The Human Resources Learning & Development role is responsible for developing, delivering and maintaining a system of training, development and educational opportunities in Spanish (present, read and translate) including but not limited to: employment law (including those effecting agriculture), supervisory and leadership for Western Growers’ Members. HR background is needed (familiar with employment law and worked in an HR department). You will be responsible for:  


Member Services

  • Develop professional relationships with member company HR staff and act as a resource for questions and/or issues, as well as respond to “just-in-time” training needs.

  • Travel extensively to agricultural regions to deliver training (up to 50%). Mostly California and Arizona, but can include national locations as well.

  • Ensure that member information is inputted into the company’s association management software (AMS).

Instructional Design

  • Conduct needs assessments of member company’s employment law/practices, supervisory, and safety training needs.

  • Develop training curriculum, applicable job aids, and guides, and present them in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

  • Oversee the creation and update of training materials relative to content directly related to human resources (internal and external).

  • Provide input to training strategy and the development of specific training development plans by creating a system to evaluate the quality of training courses and implementing improvements.


  • Develop and maintain a calendar of member training events.

  • Contribute to the creation of training and development or human resources (HR) related updates for Western Growers publications.

  • Oversee the tracking of training, education, and development efforts, maintain member records (transcripts/rosters), and formally recognize individual achievement using the Western Growers University concept. 


Essentials to have:

  • 5-7 years of developing content and delivering training in a business environment (corporate university), and/or BS/BA degree preferred.

  • Exceptional fluency in speaking, presenting, reading and writing both English and Spanish.

  • HR background is essential (familiar with employment law and worked in an HR department)

  • PHR /SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP highly desirable.

  • Highly proficient in word-processing, presentation, spreadsheet and other various software that leads to the development of job aids, training material/content for instructor lead or web based training.

  • Exceptional understanding of the psychology of adult learning concepts and principals.

  • Some knowledge of the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model for workforce training and development.

  • Ability to communicate with people outside the organization and represent the organization to customers, members, and other external sources.

  • Verifiable, clean DMV record and the ability to travel to various locations throughout the U.S. (mainly California and Arizona) up to 50%.
