Interstate Meat Distributors is seeking an experienced professional to oversee human resources activities such as recruitment, compensation, employee relations, benefits administration, training, and employee services.

The position is based in Clackamas, OR and will report to the General Manager.


  • Works with Hiring Managers and external contract recruiters to recruit, interview, and select employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation and training as well as employee development initiatives to foster positive attitude toward Company goals.
  • Administers company compensation programs and analyzes market data to determine competitive compensation plan.
  • Maintains human resources documentation that meets regulatory requirements as well as management information needs.
  • Assists in administering employee relations as needed for 100+ manufacturing employees and 10+ office staff, including conflict resolution, performance improvement plans, and maintenance of employee relations database and related documentation.
  • Works with third-party administrators to maintain benefits programs such as 401k, health, and dental insurance, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Manage and process workmans compensation and unemployment claims.
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, training and reporting are in compliance.
  • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, sexual harassment, and similar.
  • Responds to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation; may conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA reporting requirements and document record keeping (OSHA 300 logs, etc.).

Required Qualifications

  • Bsc/BA in a relevant field plus at least 3 years’ proven HR experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of best practice human resources policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate Excel and PPT skills.
  • Experience writing, maintaining, and administering HR policies and programs related to both ongoing and new developments in state and federal compliance areas – i.e. EEO and AAP compliance, social media, sick leave, pay equity, USERRA, independent contractors, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual – English and Spanish speaking
  • SHRM or HRCI certification and/or additional advanced education in Business or HR
  • Experience administering recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in food processing industry
  • Familiarity with Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification and requirements
