The Human Resources Generalist located in the Pittsburgh, PA area is responsible for providing HR services to clients by serving as an advisor, implementing HR strategies and resolutions to promote organizational effectiveness. This position also carries out HR responsibilities for designated HR clients in the following functional areas: benefits administration, payroll, employee relations, performance management, recruiting and onboarding, policy implementation, managing medical leaves of absence and employment law compliance.


  • Review and draft employee handbooks for clients as well as one off human resource related policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance to clients on compliance with company policies and applicable law, such as discipline, attendance, FMLA and reasonable accommodations
  • Create and provide various company templates, forms and guides to clients
  • Provide onsite Human Resources services to clients as needed
  • Manage the recruiting process for clients, including, posting, sourcing, phone screening, client coordination and negotiating offers
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the HR department and services performed
  • Conducts new-employee orientations, onboarding and writes and places job advertisements
  • Recommends, implements and oversees the performance management process for clients
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations
  • Manages medical leaves of absences, including worker's compensation, FMLA and those granted under the ADA
  • Performs payroll administration
  • Performs benefits administration, and handles open enrollment
  • Processes unemployment compensation claims and handles any legal proceedings related thereto, including providing testimony
  • Other duties as assigned



  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook, Power Point & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management required
  • 3-5+ years of progressive Human Resources' Generalist experience required, including employee relations, employee benefits, FMLA management, employment law compliance, responding to reasonable accommodations and handling unemployment compensation claims
  • 2+ years of recruiting experience required
  • 2+ years of payroll experience (Paychex or similar payroll systems) required
  • Periodic travel is required, occasional overnight stays

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION: PHR certification preferred

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
