OVERVIEW

This role reports to the Human Resources Supervisor for NewMarket Services Corporation and serves as a resource in our Pasadena, Texas manufacturing plant. This position will be responsible for generalist duties, with emphasis on recruiting, on-boarding, employee benefits administration, and miscellaneous projects furthering organizational objectives. This role also provides occasional HR support for the Port Arthur, Texas facility and fills in for the HR Supervisor in his/her absence.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, developing recruitment strategies and supporting the organization’s staffing and employment goals; tracking and maintaining applicant flow data for information and compliance; on-boarding new hires; serving as site benefits coordinator; and compliance with employment-related laws and regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Process, verify, and maintain personnel related documentation, including staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations, classifications, and employee leaves of absence.
  • Explain company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants.
  • Record data for each employee, including such information as addresses, absences, supervisory reports on performance, and dates of and reasons for terminations.
  • Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions.
  • Answer questions regarding eligibility, benefits, and other pertinent information.
  • Manage the total recruitment process for the facility, including processing and reviewing employment applications to evaluate qualifications or eligibility of applicants, scheduling interviews with key management personnel and participating in the interview process, leading the evaluation process, and finally structuring offers and extending same to the selected candidate. Provide assistance in administering employee benefit programs and workers’ compensation plans.
  • Search employee files to obtain information for authorized persons and organizations, such as credit bureaus and finance companies.
  • Maintain training records.
  • Organize employee functions and employee appreciation activities.
  • Maintain EEO and AAP information for annual submission.
  • Conduct investigations as necessary to respond to employee concerns.
  • Participate in the labor negotiation process.

Requirements

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and use of the most up-to-date recruitment and hiring methods; experience recruiting technical candidates in an industrial setting is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of benefits administration.

  • Knowledge of employment-related compliance issues.

  • Experience in a unionized environment a plus.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization, operating in a strong, team-based supportive culture.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, presentation, negotiation and customer service skills.

  • Ability to operate with the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and tolerate multiple work interruptions.

  • Possess strong problem identification and problem solving skills as well as effective conflict resolution skills.

     

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • 3- 5+ years of relevant HR Generalist and Recruiting experience preferably in an Industrial setting.
