The human resource generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior management team. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment and hiring will be the primary function but will also include tasks with benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

Essential Functions

  1. Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career-pathing program; and writes and places advertisements.
  2. Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all organization personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; maintains the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
  3. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  4. Administers the compensation program; monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.
  5. Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees.
  6. Works with our PEO to Develop and maintain affirmative action program; files EEO-1 report annually; and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  7. Processes time clocks, confirms PTO entries and uses proprietary system to calculate commission/bonus payments for payroll on a biweekly basis.
  8. Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling and exit interviewing.
  9. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars, as needed.
  10. Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.
  11. Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  12. Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  13. Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional call center environment with extended business hours, although this position does not require nights or weekends except on limited circumstances.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and 7:30 am-4:30 pm every other Monday to process payroll. Minimal evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree and three to five years of  HR experience, or a master's degree in HR management and two years of experience in the HR field, or seven years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.

Active Membership in SHRM is a plus.

PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
