Altarum is seeking an HR Generalist to support and implement HR initiatives, drive outcomes in the best interest of the business, and enable our employees to be their best. You will be responsible for partnering with a variety of business units to drive the daily HR operations for those groups by providing guidance, support and coordination in the consistent and effective application of our HR practices. You support companywide organizational initiatives.

 This position will support all of the Altarum office locations in the DC Metro area but will be primarily located in Silver Spring, Maryland. The HR Generalist must be able to work from our Rockville, Maryland and Washington, DC offices at least one a week or on as needed basis. 


Primary Responsibilities 

  • The full spectrum of HR practices for the business unit(s) in which you are assigned including: tactical day-to-day HR activities, employee relations, and talent management.
  • Responsible for the complete cycle of an employee’s tenure, including on-boarding and orientation; explanation of benefits, policies & procedures overview; facilitation of exit interview and departure process
  • Plan and manage employee morale events
  • Assist in the preparation of compliance reports on an annual basis (Affirmative Action Plans, EEOC, and Vets 4212)
  • Participate in special projects related to Performance Management, Employee Recognition, policy creation, etc.
  • Update and maintain the HR SharePoint site
  • Update and maintain the HR Handbook
  • Assist in managing organization-wide Employee Recognition programs
  • Under the direction of the HR Manager, assist in the implementation of promotions, transfers and salary adjustments in the HRIS.
  • Under the guidance of the HR Manager, assists in the discreet, timely and effective investigation and resolution of employee relation issues as they arise
  • Manage ad hoc requests and projects such as headcount, turnover, merit, bonus, and reporting
  • Build and grow credibility and relationships and understanding of client groups.
  • Employment Verifications: preparing employment verification letters, conducting reference checks, etc.
  • Conduct research on Human Resource practices, policies, legal regulations and trends as needed. Understand labor policies changes and recommend changed to maintain compliance with federal laws
  • Participates in developing processes improvements to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Assist the HR department with updating and maintaining the HRIS.
  • Developing strong relationships with the business leaders & employees to gain support and achieve results 


Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other applicable field.
  • 2-5 years of progressive HR or Human Capital experience.
  • Experience with HRIS applications.
  • PHR certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge and interest in multiple human resource disciplines including performance management, training, employee relations, talent management, and federal and state employment laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in a fluid environment.
  • Ability to build strong employee relationships
  • A desire to offer up innovative ideas
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and use discretion
  • Ability to work well in a remote office as well as some of the business units this position may support
