Position Summary:


The HR Administrator plays a critical role in the Metropolitan Opera’s seven-person Human Resources/Labor Relations department, which serves approximately 3,000 employees, many of whom are represented by a collective bargaining agreement. We are seeking someone with prior generalist experience to assist with all aspects of HR, with particular expertise in employee relations and communications.

Prior experience in a non-profit and/or union environment is preferred.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Provide support for all of the Met’s HR functions, including benefits, employee relations, recruiting and onboarding, disability management, labor relations, compensation, and training.

  • Conduct investigations related to reports of misconduct and other violations of company policy, write reports regarding the investigations and make disciplinary recommendations to HR leadership.

  • Help oversee recruiting, onboarding and off boarding (please note that recruiting is a part, but not the primary focus, of this job)

  • Consistently assess the methods and content of HR communications to the company regarding benefits and other topics and make recommendations and implement solutions to ensure communications are easy to understand and access.

  • Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of the Met’s policies and benefit programs.

  • Assist employees in person and on the phone with questions and concerns.

  • Along with other staff members, provide administrative support, including answering the department phones, filing, assisting with mailings, performing data entry, reviewing paperwork, and other tasks, as needed.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent

  • Three or more years related experience

  • Experience handling employee relations issues and investigations, preferably in a union environment

  • Ability to provide top-notch service and support to all employees.

  • Ability to communicate complex benefits and other HR information in a clear and concise way that all employees can understand.

  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and previous experience with an HRIS.

  • Strong data analysis skills.

  • Knowledge of HR practices and regulations.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

  • Ability to deal with all personality types and remain poised under pressure.

  • Ability to multi-task and handle a high volume of work.
