The Financial Specialist will work in the Corporate Human Resources department at our Bethesda, MD headquarters. The position will be responsible for financial aspects of benefit plan administration: processing the funding of benefit plans, paying invoices associated with the plans, calculating and issuing plan reports, performing tests to maintain compliance with IRS and jurisdictional requirements, performing internal audits of the plans (and payroll). The position also involves assisting and educating employees about the benefit plans.

This position is part-time at a scheduled 25 hours per week. It includes health and retirement benefits.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Retirement Plan:
    • Process and fund weekly and bi-weekly retirement contributions
    • Prepare monthly Trustee reporting
    • Process, fund, and allocate all retirement related vendor invoices
    • Assist with annual Retirement Plan audit
    • Respond to participant inquiries
    • Conduct/assist with employee education meetings
  • Health and Welfare Plan:
    • Process all health and welfare funding (FSA, HSA, Commuter, Rx, and PPO Claims)
    • Process, fund, and allocate all health and welfare related vendor invoices
    • Administer HSA Plan
    • Calculate and submit jurisdictional benefit reporting
    • Conduct H&W Vendor/Payroll audits
    • Conduct non-discrimination testing (125, 105(h))
  • Payroll and Job Audit:
    • Bi-weekly review of Confidential Payroll
    • Monthly reconciliation of Confidential Payroll bank account
    • Prepare job audit data


  • Superior attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Prior experience working in benefits is a plus
  • Accounting and/or investment background is a plus (CPA not required)
