Under the leadership of the Chief Human Resources Officer of the University of Connecticut (UConn), including the medical and dental academic centers of excellence, law school and Hospital, this position, based in Storrs, CT, has core responsibility over the University's employee/labor relations and human resources policy management functions. The Executive Director, Employee Relations is responsible for developing university-wide policies, practices, procedures, and strategies for sound employee and labor relations for both union and non-union academic, administrative and clinical employees. The Executive Director, Employee Relations is a senior level participant in the development of a comprehensive and inclusive human resources platform, while working collaboratively with all segments of the University in support of the University's mission.

The Executive Director will be accountable for providing leadership to the Labor Relations team and serve as the HR Policy lead through establishing University-wide employee and labor relations goals and objectives complimentary of the Chief Human Resources Officer's strategic goals and operational initiatives and University by-laws. This individual will be responsible for strategic planning including the soliciting and review of current and projected employee relations needs of all academic, clinical and administrative units. The Executive Director, Employee relations will serve as the University's chief negotiator in collective bargaining with all University-specific bargaining units and serve as the University's lead representative on statewide bargaining teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree required in a related discipline. A Juris Doctor (J.D.) required from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in the State of Connecticut.

Professional Credentials
Possess a minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, particularly in the area of employee and labor relations. First chair experience in labor relations negotiations. Significant ability to foster a culture of mutual respect, innovation, employer/employee balance and continuous improvement in the key areas of employee/labor relations and HR policy development. Significant knowledge of human resources and employment law, regulatory compliance and practices. Ability to think analytically and strategically to build consensus and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds at all levels of the institution. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct all employee relations activities of a large, multi-faceted public institution. Proven skills in examining, developing, proposing and re-engineering policy, operations, budgets and procedures. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, as well as strong organizational and management abilities. Ability to build and foster strong trusting relationships, influence leaders, use negotiation skills and develop solutions to achieve results. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant and significant experience with a public institution.
