The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a research university and academic health center that discovers, teaches and applies knowledge for the intellectual, cultural, social and economic benefit of Birmingham, the state and beyond. Under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), this position will supervise, administer and oversee recruiting strategies and employee relations initiatives for UAB. We will rely on you to develop appropriate employee policies and provide policy coordination support across entities; plan, develop, direct and support strategic recruitment, employment and employee recognition programs; direct the disability management functions (AWARE program) and the UAB worker's compensation/OJI program; monitor and report metrics; develop appropriate employee communications; and provide leadership and coaching for HR consultants within UAB's academic and central administrative units.


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field
  • 10 years of related experience (work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement)
  • Certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) or as a Society for Human Resource Management-Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred
