The Employee Relations Specialist II will perform tasks associated with employee relations such as investigations, coaching, counseling and terminations. In addition, the Employee Relations Specialist II is responsible for identifying strategies targeted as reducing turnover associated with Employee Relations matters. Provides specialized services in employment relations, employment law, conflict mediation, and education programs for employees and management


  • Initiates updates to Human Resources policies and procedures to reflect changes in relevant laws
  • Advises managers and employees on initial processes regarding employee relations issues, dispute resolution, interpretation and application of policies
  • Provides in-depth knowledge and interpretation to employees and managers regarding their questions on policies, procedures and practices
  • Provides initial guidance to supervisors pertaining to disciplinary procedures, performance improvement plan including termination documentation, handling routine and moderate to complex actions independently
  • Reviews initial complaints, investigations, corrective action, and other employee relations issues, making recommendations regarding the next steps to supervisors and affected employees
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of employee relations issues and incidents
  • Maintains employee relation activity reports, as well as, researching and analyzing employee relations data, making recommendations as to necessary training, etc
  • Assists with developing metrics for measuring effectiveness of Employee Relations within the HR department
  • Handles terminations, resignation processes and provides summary of exit interviews
  • Maintains exit interview reports, as well as, researching and analyzing data for turnover trends
  • Participates in special projects related either to departmental or organizational needs and priorities
  • Represents Altamed at unemployment appeals hearings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  1. A bachelor's degree required, discipline in labor/employment relations preferred. Master's degree preferred
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related Human Resources role required
  3. Certifications and/or classes in Wage Hour Laws and/or Employment Law strongly preferred
  4. Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred
