General Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer the Employee Relations Manager oversees and assists in the resolution of employee relations issues for employees and supervisors/dept heads of the university. Position has primary responsibility for being a resource to staff on university policies and procedures as well as serving as a coach and adviser for disciplinary actions and terminations. Position manages Performance Management Initiative system and may supervise graduate students on project work. Must be available on occasion to work nights and to travel when needed.

Essential Duties of Position

Manages and responds to employee relations inquiries, investigations, corrective action and related activities. Assist with employee mediation and conflict resolution. Conducts investigations related to informal and formal complaints. Completes investigations in a timely manner.

Assists university management with maximizing employee performance and engagement. Coaches managers/dept heads to provide them with supervisory techniques and tools. Assist managers/dept heads in developing action plans to address performance.

Position provides technical support and management of the performance management system. Assists managers with system issues; provides advice, counsel, and training to users.

Assists CHRO with employment law issues to ensure university maintains compliance. Researches and recommends changes to ensure best practices. Prepares reports and presentations as needed. Supervises graduate students on project work

Assists CHRO with employment policy training and other HR projects and related duties as needed


Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and 4 years experience in HR or related field; including counseling and/or psychology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in HR or related field.
Experience with and knowledge of employment law issues.
Experience with employee mediation and conflict resolution.
