Employee Relations Manager

Provide advice on labor and employment issues to organizational leadership and employees. Resolve disputes between employees and managers, assist with negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and coordinate grievance procedures to handle employee complaints.  Serve as backup support to HR Business Partners for assigned business units. Provide support regarding employment policies, and implement appropriate policies and procedures.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Advise management on matters related to the administration of employee discipline or grievance procedures. 

  • Train managers on topics related to labor relations.  Mediate conflicts between management and employee representatives in an effort to reconcile disagreements.

  • Attend meetings with employee representatives.

  • Assist with presenting the company position during arbitration or other labor negotiations. . 

  • Ensure compliance with federal state and local legal standards relating to labor and employment issues.

  • Ensure that all Bright Horizons’ policies and procedures are followed and that employees are treated fairly and consistently within company policies.

  • Respond to employee relations issues with a sense of urgency and work to see that they are resolved promptly.

  • Train organizational leaders on labor and employment issues, and assist HR Business Partners with responding to those issues.

  • Assist managers with developing interventions, performance improvement strategies, and compensation analysis to promote positive employee relations.

  • Plan and implement strategies requiring in-depth knowledge of human resources principles, legal precedents and company practices

  • Be available by phone and email support to centers within assigned region. 

  • Educate directors and regional managers about employee relations practices, and addressing potential problem areas. 

  • Provide support, training and advice to directors on labor and employment issues as needed. 

  • Travel to assigned centers/locations and to regional meetings is required.

  • Complete other projects for the human resources department as needed.

 

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or HR certification preferred.

  • 5+ years of employee relations experience with 3+ years of traditional labor relations experience in an organized setting. 

  • Multi-site service industry experience preferred.  

  • Must be analytical, have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects. 

  • Problem solving, diplomacy and good judgment considering the impact of decisions is essential. 

  • Knowledge of HRIS preferred.

Will work 4 days remote and 1 day New York City
