Here's a fantastic opportunity to join LEGOLAND California Resort's Human Resources department on a fixed-term role as ER Advisor.  This role is required for a 6-month minimum term with potential to extend beyond November 2018.


Position Summary:              

Under general direction, the Employee Relations  Advisor is responsible for the participation in resolution of first level employee relations problems, and working in conjunction with Human Resources Manager and HR Director to resolve second level employee relations issues. This position also requires a high level of attention to detail and confidentiality. The Employee Relations Advisor will interpret policies and procedures, advise on fair and equitable employment practices and make recommendations and provide strong guidance to Leads, Supervisors and Managers to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws. This position requires strong skills in problem solving complex employee relations issues, effective communication with employees at multiple levels across the organization, and the ability to work in an very fast-paced environment.



Scope and Responsibilities:


  1. Explains to all levels of management company policies, procedures and governmental regulations, and the need for compliance.
  2. Lead various investigations, responds to and resolves employee grievances and thoroughly documents cases.
  3. Provide assistance to Resort management with the resolution of employee performance, attendance and other issues including possible employment actions to be taken.
  4. Responds to unemployment claims, representing company when needed at hearings.
  5. Provides guidance to Resort management in all disciplinary actions and gives final approval of the action for the personnel records up to and including termination decisions.
  6. Lead meetings that result in termination of employees ensuring final check and required documentation is provided at time of separation.
  7. Process voluntary separations in the HRIS system.
  8. Prepares HR metrics and statistical reports for management.
  9. Conducts exit interviews for Full Time Supervisors and above, provides summary report to Senior Leadership team.
  10. Works with L&D manager and training representative on annual engagement survey to ensure proper action planning via department workshops and feedback sessions.
  11. Manages all records and files associated with corrective actions and terminations including updating of the HR database with current information. 

  12. Serves as a member of the human resources team to contribute to overall effectiveness of the human resources function.  Promotes and demonstrates Merlin culture and core values through corresponding behavior and actions. 

  13. Collaborates with employee relations team on human resources policies, procedures, and programs.


Background and Experience:


Requires at least three to five years of progressive experience in human resources, with a specialization in employee relations.  Requires the ability to work on various assignements simultaneously.   Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with department heads, managers, employees, and vendors to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions. Must be knowledgeable in the areas of employment law and progressive disciplinary processes.


Must be able to present a professional image, utilize sound judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality. Must be organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.  Requires the ability to set up and maintain comprehensive and detailed records. Computer proficiency with ability to independently use Microsoft Office products is required.  Experience with HRIS is a plus.





A Bachelor’s Degree in liberal arts, psychology, human resources, business, management or closely related field is preferred.  A human resources management certificate is preferred.


Physical Demands:


Ability to sit for sustained periods of time, attend on-site and off-site meetings and travel as needed (10%).


Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the park site, and interact with employees.


Ability to climb stairs to gain access to upper level of buildings.


Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.


Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.


Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.



Work Environment:


Various inside and outside locations with varying temperatures and floor surfaces.


Other Requirements:


Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends to support park operations.


Must have valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and be willing to utilize own vehicle for business purposes.


Must be willing to travel locally and regionally to conduct business
