Job Summary:

The Employee Benefits Manager is responsible for strategy, development, and execution of all corporate employee benefit plans and benefits initiatives, including oversight of the wellness program. Acts as the subject matter expert for plan design, administration, and compliance of all health and welfare and retirement benefit plans. Oversees the annual open enrollment process. Recommends and implements new or modified plans and policies as part of a Total Rewards framework. Responsible for overall benefit plan communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Benefits Management

  • Lead strategist and manager of our health and welfare, wellness, and retirement benefit programs including:
    • medical and prescription plans, dental, vision, life and disability
    • 401(k)
  • Devises efficient and compliant benefits administration procedures:
    • leads any system improvements to the benefits portal that includes employee self-service and open enrollment.
    • directs the administration of the 401(k) Plan including enrollment activity, terminations, plan changes, loans and communications to employees. Ensures compliance with IRS and DOL regulations.
  • Leads the development of communication plans to inform prospective and current employees about benefits within the total rewards framework:
    • assists in the development of full-cycle comprehensive communications plan to inform and educate prospective and current employees about total rewards.
  • Oversees Leave of Absence process.
  • Works with HR and senior leadership to continuously review current benefits ensuring competitiveness and alignment with organizational priorities and goals.
  • Manages annual insurance renewal/open enrollment process and associated staff education events.
  • Develops and maintains an administration manual for use by the Benefits staff.

Wellness

  • Oversees the Employee Wellness program design, administration, and communication.
  • Develops ROI metrics for Employee Wellness program, creating semi-annual reports and communicating program efficacy and results to senior leadership.


Vendor Management:

  • Reviews utilization, fees, claims and service of all benefits plans.
  • Manages key relationships with brokers, record keepers, administrators and providers to ensure high service levels with effective program design.

Compliance:

  • Reviews and obtains necessary documentation for qualified plans; IRS and ERISA mandated submissions and employee communications, including IRS Annual Return-Form 5500, Summary Annual Reports (SARs) and Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs).
  • Coordinates internal/external benefit audits.
  • Stays abreast of federal and state employee benefits regulations, as well as the shifting needs of the organizations workforce.


Team Management:

  • Lead day-to-day work and guide the growth and development of the benefit team.



Requirements

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (degrees in the areas of Human Resources, Business Administration or Finance highly preferred).
  • 7-9 years’ experience in Corporate Benefits administration and management.
  • Hands-on benefits management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis an interpretation.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, and other areas of benefits compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience managing domestic health and welfare plans, retirement plans, STD, LTD, workers’ compensation and COBRA.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, environment with multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proven experience designing and developing effective administrative procedures.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand user needs within and outside of HR and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and PowerPoint; expert-level experience with Excel.
  • Proficiency with Kronos HRIS preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
