Director of Human Resources


Reports to:         COO



The Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing strategic HR leadership and directing HR functions including employee relations, compensation, compliance and employee benefits, recruiting, creating and updating policies and procedures, performance evaluations and recommending HR best practices to the leadership team.


 Essential functions


  • Conduct recruitment efforts and screen interviewees for all exempt and nonexempt personnel;
  • Manage new employee orientation program;
  • Provide leadership and guidance on employee relations;
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement benefits programs;
  • Administer human resource policies, programs and practices, including planning, organizing, developing, implementing, coordinating and directing;
  • Manage employee relations issues at all levels within the organization through counseling, mediating and resolving disputes, coordinating and documenting investigations of complaints and action taken supporting risk assessment management;
  • Consult with legal counsel as appropriate, and/or as directed by the COO on personnel matters;
  • Assist executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of Association wage and salary program;
    • Conduct outplacement counseling and exit interviews; communicate changes in Association personnel policies and procedures and ensure proper compliance; work closely with leadership to ensure quality timely reviews and employee performance feedback;
    • Develop staff development and training programs;
    • Work with General Counsel and CFO to monitor legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures to ensure compliance;
    • Stay current on recent federal, state and case law changes and monitor labor law updates for changes that affect HR;
    • Develop and manage the Human Resources budget;
    • Develop and maintain a human resources system that meets Association personnel information needs;
    • Interface directly with leadership team on strategic plans and organizational changes to meet operational short-and long-term goals;
    • Work on special projects and assignments, as necessary.





  • Degree in Human Resources, a related degree or appropriate combination of education and experience; an advanced degree and/or HR certification is a plus, PHR, SPHR, and GPHR;
  • Minimum of 10+ years HR Generalist with emphasis on employee relations;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Working knowledge of all federal, state and local employment law;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written;
  • Excellent technical skills and working knowledge of HR and Finance related software and processes;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and grammatical skills.
