We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to offer strategic HR guidance and take over day-to-day human resource responsibilities. The Director of Human Resources will be a one-person department for whom no task is too small, and will report directly to the COO. We are seeking a Human Resources Manager to deliver on all HR practices with a culture first approach, and offer strategic, value-add counsel to our company on all HR-related matters. The role allows for flexibility in location and could begin as part-time evolving as company needs grow.

The Director of Human Resources is akey part of the leadership team responsible for the development and execution of a global human resource strategy that supports the company's strategic vision, growth initiatives and values. (Specifically, this role will be responsible for the success of all areas within HR, including succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, total rewards, and inclusion and diversity.)This role will serve in support of our customers, associates, stockholders, and board of directors. The Director of Human Resources provides leadership in partnership with the executive team to advance the impact of HR programs on business strategies.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with previous experience working at a fast-paced, early-stage startup with virtual employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide human resources support and consultation across the business on the most complex issues, supporting staff, managers and executives in all related areas and regions including: recruitment, performance management, compensation and rewards, staff relations, and people development.
  • Conduct recruitment: activity to include advertising, internal job posting, application screening, coordination of interviewing, extending offers of employment and completing necessary paperwork. Develop and maintain tracking system for open positions.
  • Develops and conducts new employee orientation sessions to ensure the smooth and successful transition of new hires into the Company.
  • Maintain personnel files, including training records and all necessary new hire paperwork. Ensures that systems are in place to efficiently, confidentially, and effectively maintain legally required and other important records on employees.
  • Design and direct professional development plan including trainings to employees and to management on leadership, processes, policies and best practices.
  • May eventually include managing and directing subordinate staff to identify goals and objectives.
  • Establishes a strategic plan to keep the company marketable on benefit offerings; experience working with an outside Broker/Vendor on Benefit offerings; Knowledge and experience on all Benefit plans including a full understanding of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements for Medical plans. Researches and recommends changes in benefits that are of value to employees and are cost-effective to the Company.
  • Partners with leadership and employees to create a strong culture, diverse culture that attracts and retains employees.

Location

BookheadEd Learning has offices in Petaluma, CA, but qualified candidates will be considered in remote locations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive human resource experience including Leadership/Management functions where you have had consistent success in leading an entire HR function
  • Thorough knowledge of HR law, principles, best practices, administration and systems
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, additional HR Certifications highly preferred
  • Knowledge of a range of HR/recruiting/benefits platforms
  • Experience working with remote companies preferred
  • Experience working with entrepreneurial and rapidly growing companies also preferred
