Job purpose

 

The Director of Human Resources is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resources department.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Management Responsibilities:

  • Develops HR related goals, objectives and systems.
  • Recommends and implements personnel policies and procedures; maintains handbook on policies and procedures.
  • Performs benefits administration to include answering employee's benefit questions and annual re-evaluation of all plans.      
  • Manages the recruitment and selection process.
  • Manage all outside vendors with regards to Benefits, HRIS system (Paycom), 401K and any other agencies utilized by the Firm.
  • Assesses training needs of firm, then develop and deliver training materials necessary for the growth and success of the Firm.
  • Employee relations counseling.
  • Establishes and maintains department records and reports.
  • Responsible for time and attendance tracking.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.
  • Nurture a positive working environment.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Recognizes issues, and determines actions needed to advance the decision making process. Follows-up as necessary. Adaptability: not discourage by ambiguous situations. Is open to new ideas and processes, and adjusts approach to achieve results.

 Business Acumen / Functional Knowledge and Skill: Demonstrates skills and knowledge relevant to one’s own function or work group. Applies current best practices and discipline over specialty areas. Stays aware of major developments in discipline or specialty area recognized by customers and team members for functional knowledge and skills.

 

Dependability / Reliability: Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. Demonstrates a high level of dependability on all aspects of the job by showing commitment and accountability to one’s work. Arrives to work on-time every day and is dedicated to following through on all projects, goals, and aspects of one’s work within the timeframes necessary.

 Managing Change: The ability to demonstrate support for innovative and organizational changes needed to improve the Firm’s effectiveness while helping others to successfully manage organizational change.

Managing Performance / Development: The ability to take responsibility for one’s own or one’s employee’s performance by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, and ensuring feedback and addressing performance problems and issues immediately while responsibly delegating work and coaching as needed.

 

Conflict Management: Brings substantial conflicts and disagreements to the attention of staff involved and attempts to manage them collaboratively while building consensus and keeping the best interest of the Firm in mind, not only one’s interests. Responds to opposing views in a non-defensive manor.

Requirements

Qualifications / Required Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5-7 years of human resource management or human resources generalist experience.
  • A PHR or SPHR certification is preferred.
  • 5 years of supervisory / management experience of a team of 2 or more.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of processes and procedures for effective delivery of services and compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with legal, audit and compliance staff.

 

Working conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

Physical requirements

The ability to work in an office environment, seated for long periods of time, in front of a computer, while typing documents, responding to emails, managing calendars and answering phones.

 

Direct reports

Manages a team of up to 5 employees to include, Network Administrator and Technical Support Staff.

 

Special Position Requirements

  • Expected to train staff.
  • May need to respond during non-business hours.
  • Travel may be required to other Firm locations as needed.
