Maplewood Senior Living’s new Inspīr brand of world-class, urban senior living properties is seeking a Director of Human Resources to oversee people operations of its new Inspīr | Carnegie Hill property, set to open in 2020. Located on the Upper East Side, this 23 story, 215 unit residence will offer assisted living, enhanced care and memory care.

The Director of Human Resource Role:

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for staffing qualified personnel; ensuring employment statute compliance; and overseeing all aspects of wage, benefit, worker's compensation unemployment, and training program direction, implementation, and administration. The Director of Human Resources is accountable for ensuring legally appropriate posting of all line and supervisory positions in a timely manner, timely facilitation of orientation and service culture training, the accurate and timely completion of paper work, and the understanding and enforcement of company, state, provincial and federal policies.  Familiarity with and knowledge of NY employment laws and collective agreements are essential.

Director of Human Resource Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and addresses associate training needs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Inspir standards and practices
  • Direct the development of a variety of human resources and organizational development policies and practices
  • Drive process improvements and overall efficiencies in talent practices
  • Manage and assess HR & OD information systems and processes used for recruiting, on-boarding, etc.
  • Ensure that progressive and competitive compensation and benefits programs are in place that motivate and incentivize employee performance to reach organizational goals
  • Participate in strategic planning including the mission, vision, values, objectives, strategies, policies/procedures, and associated initiatives
  • Protects assets by establishing compliance standards; anticipating emerging compliance trends; designing improvements to internal control structure
  • Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing regulations; recommending new procedures; complying with legal requirements
  • Attracts new clients by maintaining state-of-the-art compliance programs; bringing compliance recognition to the company; providing leadership in the industry
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Enhances compliance and organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary
  • Mathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions
  • Must be able to prioritize departmental functions in order to meet due dates and deadlines


  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, required. Master’s preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in human resources
  • Experience in healthcare industry, preferred
  • Able to work well in stressful, high pressure situations and maintain composure and objectivity under pressure
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by residents and guests
  • Ability to stand for long hours and walk long distances without fatigue
  • Ability to bend, stretch, stoop and reach repeatedly without difficulty Light work – Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels
