The Actors Fund, a national human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Human Resources Director to lead its national HR team, serving 285 employees in four states. Operating from the New York Headquarters office and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director will lead a team dedicated to providing best practice HR in a collaborative and rewarding environment.

The Director of Human Resources will oversee HR-focused policies and practices. This includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Establish and implement Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Provide counsel on Human Resources and employee relations issues
  • Manage, investigate and mediate employee issues; coordinate with legal counsel when appropriate
  • Direct recruitment and onboarding, ensuring compliance with EEO regulations
  • Train and equip directors and supervisors to hire, promote, reward and retain the best employees
  • Responsible for compensation and total rewards strategy
  • Oversee benefits programs and in conjunction with other team members, review, select, administer and ensure compliance of benefit and retirement plans
  • Oversee performance management, training, professional, leadership and organizational development
  • Implement, manage and maintain HRIS; supervise maintenance of all HRIS data

Additionally, the Director is responsible for the general administration function and facilities, insurance/risk management, and supervision of the New York facilities and general administrative staff.

Through offices in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, The Fund serves everyone in film, theatre, television, music, opera, radio and dance with programs including social services and emergency financial assistance, health care and insurance counseling, housing, and secondary employment and training services.


The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of progressive general Human Resources experience as well as experience managing a team. A candidate with a Master’s Degree, at least 3 years in a leadership role in HR and SHRM-SCP/SPHR certification is strongly preferred. This position requires occasional travel to other sites.

Additional skills desired:
• Familiarity with New York, New Jersey and California employment and labor law
• Strong technical and HRIS proficiency (ADP WorkforceNow preferred) and a track record for leveraging technology to improve the employee experience
• Experience working in combined union/non-union environments and with collective bargaining
• Non-profit experience preferred
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
