Objective

The Director of Human Resources provides overall leadership to the Human Resources function by overseeing talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, performance management and the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures. The Director of Human resources functions as a strategic advisor to leadership regarding organizational design and people management issues. They also provide coaching and guidance to program managers on AmeriCorps member performance and retention issues including workplace accommodations. This position supervises both the Human Resources Generalist and Human Resources Assistant. The Director of HR observes confidentiality of all employee, member, program and organizational information.

 

Essential Functions

1. Organization Support:Design, modify and implement human resources policies and procedures that helps employees achieve the organization’s mission in a dynamic and growing environment. Ensure organization policies support national expansion, are scalable and in compliance with state employment laws, federal funding requirements and grant reporting guidelines. Develop and implement strategies that result in employee engagement and retention including introducing policies that promote inclusiveness and work life balance. Build a deep understanding of RMI’s programs and strategic plans and AmeriCorps regulations to better serve as internal consultant to leadership and supervisors on human resources management issues.

2. HR Functional Leadership:Lead and partner with the HR team in the design, implementation, communication and administration of employee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits. Research and apply best practices that drive effectiveness in these functional areas. Consult with management and stakeholders to assess, prioritize, and propose training plans to meet learning and development needs of the organization. Work cross-functionally on collaborative initiatives.

3. Program Support: Attend RMI meetings or functions as requested to keep informed of program activities and developments. Keep abreast of proposed and current CNCS regulations including those related to RMI staff, internal coaches and service sites. Support program staff in the ongoing design and operation of program policies and procedures to improve program delivery and staff effectiveness. Examples include, but are not limited to, guidance on background screening; member relations; performance issues; requests for accommodation

4. Management Responsibilities: Provide leadership and create a positive work environment. These responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations. Actions include employment decisions; performance management; career pathing and staff development; prioritizing and directing work, and proactively resolving problems.

5. Attendance: Regular, timely attendance to meet organizational needs in an efficient and effective manner.

Requirements

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required) in Human Resources or related field
  • Advanced Degree (Preferred) in Human Resources or related field

Minimum Experience

  • 10+ years of HR experience minimum 5 years senior management experience.
  • Strong business acumen and consultative skills. Ability to influence others at all levels within the organization.
  • Proactive, self-directed individual motivated to continually evaluate and improve processes and procedures.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills. An innovative thinker with strong initiative, demonstrated flexibility, able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of programs and procedures across HR, particularly in the areas of compensation, performance management, recruitment and training.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and listening skills including the ability to mediate conflict, solve problems proactively, and exercise sound judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated success developing and delivering presentations, including training.
  • Google platform proficiency. Ability to utilize video conferencing effectively.
  • Familiarity with AmeriCorps and grant funded business model is advantageous.
  • Ability to travel 10-15 percent of the time to locations and/or meetings throughout Minnesota.
