PRIMARY DUTY: The Human Resource Director leads the day to day work in support of the University’s strategic plan, continually building toward a high performing work place. The HR Director models the Northwest way, mentoring leaders using the Northwest leadership model by thinking and acting strategically, building University capability and getting results. The Director implements recruiting and compensation practices that recruit and retain top talent in the field, ensuring its leaders are fostering an inclusive culture that values diversity. As an advisor to University leaders, the HR Director manages, improves and redefines HR systems including recruitment and selection, benefit administration, wellness programming, compensation, policy development and compliance, employee relations, talent development, performance management, safety and emergency management, and the human resource information system. The HR Director makes decisions informed by data, calls upon experience, develops their HR team and approaches work with intellectual curiosity and creativity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Lead the Human Resource function of the University and an HR team of four and a safety team of three.
  2. Create, steer, and evolve a high performance workforce system anticipating the needs of our University.
  3. Improve the hiring systems that process candidates while ensuring an exceptional experience for each one by thinking abstractly and approaching your work in creative ways.
  4. Advocate for Northwest’s diversity initiatives, making the University a more inclusive, diverse and unique place.
  1. Coach and develop Northwest leaders on positive employee relations by modeling the Northwest leadership model, leading the Northwest Way, focused on trust, developing our employees and serving the needs of “One” University.
  2. Manage University compensation processes to ensure fair and market competitive pay for University employees.
  3. Foster and promote a healthy campus by providing leadership of wellness programs and benefit policies that promote our people to be the best they can be.
  4. Administers training and development programs that align with the development of our faculty, staff and University’s strategic needs,
  5. Implement recognition programs that foster fair and consistent wage, salary, and benefits administration.
  6. Continue to improve human resource technology solutions to ensure the most effective and streamlined human resource data processes.
  7. Direct and lead a Student Employment Program that fosters professional growth in career skills employers want while helping the University complete its work.
  8. Direct University community on Human Resources functions including developing, interpreting, implementing and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures according to federal and state laws and/or regulations.
  9. Ensure the University performance management system promotes goal attainment that supports the overall University’s mission and goals, while ensuring how we deliver results are just important as the results we attain.
  10. Provide leadership, and direction that inspires the Office of Human Resources to bring their best every day.
  11. Provide oversight to the safety and emergency management processes, ensuring policies and processes are in place for a safe work environment for all employees.
  12. Work closely with the University Title IX and Title VI office to resolve claims involvement Northwest employees.
  13. Perform related duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work in a typical office environment The Human Resources Office maintains personnel records, compiles and analyzes work force statistics and surveys, and collects and reports EEO data. This position must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

     This position must purchase and maintain a cellular device and service that will be used for work functions. This position must be responsible for plan choices, calling areas, service features, terminations clauses, and paying for all charges associated with the cellular device and service.    

     This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). The CSA will attend required CSA training and is an official of the University who has significant responsibility for students and campus activities and the authority to take action for the University.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will supervise a full-time Human Resource staff of four and the Emergency Management Coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education: Bachelor’s degree                     

      Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experiences that includes the knowledge to administer the full range of services provided through the Office of Human Resources; experience in quality improvement processes

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education: Master’s degree

      Certification/License: Certification in Human Resources

      Experience: Ten years of progressively responsible experiences that includes the knowledge to administer the full range of services provided through the Office of Human Resources; experience in supervising employees
