Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources will be responsible for directing the overall human resource operations of the college. This includes supervision of the human resources staff and programs for employee relations, benefits, compensation, payroll, recruitment, staffing, and development. The director will act as a resource and consultant for management and others in the administration of college policy and practice.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision and leadership that promote an environment in which all employees are valued and excellence, diversity, autonomy, creativity, and productivity are encouraged at all levels of the college;
  • Work closely with the President and the College leadership team to achieve the Strategic Plan goal of fostering a culture of collaborative decision-making, open and effective communication, and trust.
  • An ability to listen and synthesize information, build strong relationships with a wide range of people, and advance collaboration among diverse groups.
  • Leads the employee relations function by investigating employee complaints, directing and managing employee disciplinary procedures, and resolving workplace disputes. Interacts with employees at all levels.
  • Oversees the administration and effectiveness of the benefits functions to include worker’s compensation, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FMLA, paid leave, 403b, and other benefit programs.
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with the Payroll Office;
  • Develop and administer HR policies and practices to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations;
  • Develop professional development/training programs to enable each employee to reach his or her full potential.
  • Supervises the recruitment process to ensure compliance with appropriate federal, state laws and regulations. Develop programs to recruit and retain a diverse, motivated, and professional work force;
  • Administer staff performance appraisal and development process;
  • Oversees the management and ongoing maintenance of employee records, to ensure compliance with the appropriate federal and state laws.
  • Special projects and additional duties as required.



  • Bachelor degree with a strong preference for a master’s degree in human resources management, business administration, organizational development or a related field;
  • SHRM Certification desired (PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP)
  • 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible human resource experience, including managerial and leadership roles, with a minimum of 5 years with a not-for-profit organization;
  •  Human resource strategic planning with the ability to conceptualize, articulate, and implement a human resources vision for the college that is consistent with the institution’s mission and culture;
  • Flexible and diplomatic leadership style, belief in inclusive decision-making, and strong organizational skills;
  • Highly developed and strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Solution-oriented project manager able to exercise excellent judgment in identification of best practices;
  • Outstanding professional and personal integrity to act with sensitivity, judgment, and appropriate flexibility.
