GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources & Organizational Development, the Director of Human Resources-Compensation, Classification, Benefits, & Policy is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, evaluation, analysis, review, and development of the College’s compensation, performance management/merit increases, benefits and wellness programs. This position will oversee the compliance of Federal and State employment laws and coordinate policy development, documentation and implementation. In this role, the Director is responsible for ensuring that all compensation structure is designed with efficiencies, productivity, and value in mind, while maintaining budgetary guidelines. This position also leads human resources practices and objectives that will provide an employeeoriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, strategic planning and goal attainment.

The Director of Human Resources-Compensation, Classification, Benefits, & Policy will be expected to work across departments and coordinate the successful implementation and execution of the approved pay plans; and work with key stakeholders on all levels to ensure feedback and approvals are received. The Director will also have the responsibility to regularly review to ensure we are hitting all department priorities and objectives, and that benefits/wellness, compensation/classification, policies, retention, satisfaction, and productivity are balanced priorities.


  1. Master’s Degree in a Human Resources/Personnel field (e.g., HR Management, HR Development, Organizational Behavior, etc.). 
  2. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification required. 
  3. Experience in investigating and the resolution of human relation issues. 
  4. Experience in the interpretation and application of Federal and State employment laws.
  5.  A minimum of four years’ progressive administrative experience in the HR field, four years of supervisory experience. Prefer a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a higher education institution and in the management or direction of a HR office for a similar sized organization. 
  6. Three years’ minimum experience working in a union environment.

CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed.   6. Ability to analyze labor market and make recommendations that impact compensation program. 
  7. Ability to develop and interpret varying reports related to the college's workforce.
  8. Ability to supervise a diverse human resources staff.
  9. Ability to articulate policy, procedures and practice changes to the college workforce.
  10. Ability to motivate staff to meet the mission and values of the college.
  11. Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and State employment laws along with Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disability Act and Worker's Compensation laws.
  12.  Demonstrated critical thinking and project leadership skills.
  13. Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  14. Ability to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines.
  15. Ability to interact with a diverse work force.
  16. Ability to develop training modules and conduct presentations.
  17. Ability to interface with senior team and upper level management.


  1. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  2. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  3. A fingerprint supported background investigation will be conducted prior to offer of employment. A signed authorization for release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
