Job Description
for the
Director of Human Resources
 
 
The Director of Human Resources reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and is a key support position for the school.
 
 
Specific duties include:
  • Serve as the primary employee contact for administration of employment and benefit policies
  • Responsible for maintaining the employee handbook in coordination with legal counsel
  • Maintain employee rosters by department/division which supports payroll and the school’s budget
  • Responsible for all local, state and federal reporting compliance of employee records
  • Manage distribution of employment contracts
  • Responsible for management of open personnel positions and the related application process
  • Serve as primary liaison with department/division leaders to address employee concerns/issues
  • Serve as school representative for department/division employee terminations
  • Responsible for management of unemployment claims and possible communication with DOL
  • Manage, lead and/or direct the employee education programs for benefits as well as for leadership training of human resource policies
  • Manage employee random and pre-employment drug testing process, including serving as primary contact for the medical review officer and the drug free workplace program
  • Responsible for management of workman’s compensation claims, disability claims and FMLA
  • Responsible for the administration of the employee retirement plan
  • Responsible for the administration of the employee health and wellness benefits
  • Supervise the Associate Director of Human Resources
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Finance and Administration
 
 
Required Skills:
  • Proven Human Resource skills, including but not limited to areas of interviews and the hiring process, investigations, terminations and employee benefit administration.
 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong computer skills, including solid experience with Microsoft office, email and web, and other databases
  • Service oriented problem-solver who is able to eagerly and successfully work with diverse individuals in an educational environment
 
 
Minimum Job Qualifications:
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certificate from
Human Resource Certification Institute required
  • 7+ years of human resource management experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Independent school experience preferred
  • Foreign language capabilities preferred
 
The Director of Human Resources position is an exempt, salaried, twelve month position. 
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.  Benefits are substantial.
