Founded in 1910, St. Anne’s-Belfield School offers small class size, a talented and nurturing faculty, and challenging academics typical of the traditional college preparatory curriculum.  Located in Charlottesville, Virginia, St. Anne's-Belfield School serves approximately 900 boys and girls in Pre-School through Grade 12.  A weekly chapel service, a competitive sports program, and fine and performing arts offerings complement the academic experience. St. Anne’s-Belfield School actively seeks to advance diversity through its programs and hiring.  The School has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director of Human Resources. The Director is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resources function at the school and works closely with the Head of School and senior administration on employee hiring, performance evaluation, and training.   This position provides directly supervises the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator. 

Specific duties include the following:

  • Annually reviews and makes recommendations for improvement of the School’s policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures School’s compliance.
  • Responsible for the School’s compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to personnel and wage/hour matters.
  • Responsible for benefits administration (group health, dental, long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending plans, and 403(b) plan.
  • Manage annual open benefit enrollment 
  • Communicates changes in personnel policies/handbooks and procedures and ensures proper compliance is followed.
  • Conducts new employee orientations as well as exit interviews.
  • Performs job analysis and writes job descriptions.
  • Develop and maintain the human resource information system.
  • Administering company benefits; overseeing workers compensation claims
  • Acts as liaison between employee, insurance providers to resolve benefit related problems and ensure effective utilization of plans and positive employee relations.
  • Administer FMLA and serve as the School’s Cobra administrator.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of 5-10 years of related experience/training.
  • Required: SHRM Certification
Essential Skills include:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resource functions such as compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and development
  • Thorough understanding of HR laws, including benefit eligibility and enrollment rules, and laws related to recruiting, compensation, affirmative action, accommodations, etc.
  • Experience w/ payroll system(s), strong computer skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through to conclusion
  • Exhibit sound judgment relating to confidential matters
  • Strong initiative; a desire to excel
  • Demonstrated experience balancing the broader needs of an institution with the needs of an employee or department
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Outstanding employee relations skills
  • Ability to work as a part of a team
