The Division of Alumni Affairs and Development (AAD) at Cornell University seeks a strategic thinking, innovative, agile, collaborative human resources professional who thrives on putting strategy into action to serve as its next Director of Human Resources and Talent Management.

The Director of Human Resources and Talent Management will play critical role in supporting AAD in reaching and surpassing its ambitious goals through a talented and dedicated workforce, with a culture built on the values of Service, Unity, Respect and Excellence.  The Director will leverage their deep HR knowledge to effectively collaborate with AAD’s division leadership to develop talent strategies that support the mission of Cornell University. This role has a direct impact on the overall success of the organization by identifying and responding to human capital opportunities through analysis, problem solving, and presentation of well-informed and relevant solutions.

The Director of Human Resources and Talent Management will plan and implement an integrated approach to developing and advancing a highly skilled, connected and agile workforce, focused on the achievement of Cornell’s strategic priorities and future opportunities. This will be achieved by leading and empowering our employees in the areas of talent development, training and professional development, diversity and inclusion, organizational effectiveness, recruitment, retention, compensation, job design, performance management, AND employee engagement.  The Director will be a trusted advisor to leaders, capable of developing effective relationships throughout the organization and willing to roll up their sleeves to get things done.  The Director will also lead and develop a team of HR professionals, working along-side them to accomplish the day-to-day priorities and strategic goals of the unit.

This role features a dual reporting relationship to the Associate Vice President of Operations for AAD and the Associate Vice President of Human Resources for Cornell University. It is the best of both worlds, the Director will work strategically and day-to-day with the AVP in AAD while engaging with the broader HR community across Cornell and receiving complementary support from Central HR.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have experience working in a fast paced, high energy, agile environment where S/He thrived on tackling challenges and leading change. Additionally, the next Director will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or relevant discipline with 7-10 years progressive HR experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Proven success as a human resources leader, with experience in employee relations, compensation, recruitment, dispute resolution, organizational development, operational management, and program/project management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with a teamwork philosophy.
  • Proven skills in building and maintaining effective work relationships with the ability to counsel a broad array of constituents at varied levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to advance organizational change and development, considering diversity, inclusion and climate.
  • Strong judgment, problem solving, customer service, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven clear and effective written and verbal communication skills for developing and delivering presentations to large and small audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and sophisticated reasoning skills. Solid experience with desktop productivity tools.         
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources management or a related field preferred
