The Director of Equity and Compliance will serve as a member of a leadership team dedicated to implementing the College’s initiatives in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion. The Director will assist the Assistant Vice President of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in developing and implementing policies, evidence-based initiatives, and infrastructure changes required to create a more equitable, diverse and inclusive learning and work environment where all members of the North Central College community can fulfill their academic, research, and employment goals.

The Director plays an important role in the College’s coordinated response to reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation, prevention programs, education initiatives, and compliance efforts pursuant to all state and federal civil rights statutes and regulations. The Director responds to reports about discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation; provides consultation, information, referrals, intake, and case management; and serves as the lead investigator for allegations related to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation. The Director develops and reviews College policies and compliance initiatives, makes recommendations for improvement, and assists with implementing changes. The Director assists the Assistant Vice President of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in providing technical, skills-based training to Deputy Title IX Coordinators and faculty and staff members on the investigative team, responsible employees, Residence Assistants, Peer Health Educators, and Orientation Leaders. The Director also aides in delivering education on diversity and inclusion to the campus community that addresses implicit bias, microaggressions, power and privilege, and how individuals and teams can work to create more inclusive environments.

Professional experience in a regulatory environment in higher education such as Title IX, student affairs, human resources, legal counsel, or equity office would be preferred in this role. Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulations set forth by EEOC, Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as amended, The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), as amended, Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), FERPA, Preventing Sexual Violence in Illinois Higher Education Act, and other federal and state laws which require equal opportunity in education and employment. Experience with all aspects of conducting civil rights based investigations and is a must.

Demonstrated ability to use discretion, good judgment, and maintain confidentiality is necessary in this role. Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and facilitation skills and experience is needed. Well-developed organizational skills, attention to detail, written and oral communication skills, ability to conduct compliance-related training, and the ability to work on teams and guide the work of others are critical to the success of the Director.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree required. 
Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree in higher education administration, social work, psychology, criminal justice, human resources, labor relations, organizational development or a closely related field preferred.

A minimum of (3) three years of experience investigating, adjudicating and resolving allegations of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation in higher education, human resources, employee relations, labor relations, civil rights enforcement or other regulatory environment required. Five years of experience in higher education preferred. Training in mediation and/or restorative justice conferences a plus.

Title IX or Civil Rights investigator or Title IX coordinator certification or advanced training desired.
