The Director, Human Resources reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for implementing HR programs and policies. This position will oversee management of the recruiting and retention functions, organizational development, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, legal compliance, safety, employee relations, employment practices and procedures and benefits for a staff of 120 in season.

  • Provide a broad range of HR support for achieving objectives to include talent management, organizational effectiveness, employee engagement and performance management, as well as ensuring legal compliance
  • Develop and implement compensation, organizational design and strategies for workforce planning, deployment, and retention to address the current and future needs of the business while ensuring a diverse workforce
  • Direct the administration and implementation of a variety of human resources programs including employee training and development, recruitment and selection, compensation, grievance processing and all aspects of discipline for 120 employees in season  
  • Manage all new-hire benefits, leave and termination and payroll paperwork, ensuring compliance with various regulatory mandates and serve as primary contact for management and staff
  • Confer with, recommend, advise, and elicit cooperation of supervisors and managers on human resources matters including recruitment, transfers, promotions, employee training and development, performance evaluations, productivity, customer service, discipline, termination recommendations, leaves of absence, benefits, position allocations, investigation of employee complaints, and employee assistance programs
  • Develop new job descriptions and pay grades for staff as required
  • Manage annual employee benefit renewal program
  • Established an illness and injury prevention program (IIP) as mandated by the State of California
  • Ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures and Federal, State and Local laws and regulations which pertain to Human Resources. Implement new procedures and communicate verbally and in writing any new requirements 
  • Act as a strategic partner to management, advises and guides in the interpretation and application of HR policies, programs, processes, and regulatory compliance
  • Provided strategic guidance and counsel on all major human resources initiatives, including leadership issues, employee relations concerns, training and talent management 
  • Build strong working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and influence change by challenging the status quo constructively

Supervisory Duties:

  • 1 Human Resources Manager (exempt)



The Director, Human Resources will have the following experience: 

  • 8+ years proven HR experience with 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business or Organizational Development. SPHR and/or SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures as well as considerable knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources matters
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training preferred
