Position Summary

The HR Director, Diversity & Inclusion serves as the company’s lead representative responsible for developing and promoting a strategic plan for diversity and inclusion through workplace initiatives, workforce engagement and community/marketplace opportunities. These include targeted employment programs (STEM, diversity organizations, etc.) and initiatives for the advancement of women/people of color (mentoring, sponsorship, etc.)

As the company’s primary dedicated resource to diversity and inclusion, the incumbent must possess a balance of strategic and tactical capabilities. The role will provide global leadership to company managers and employees on building awareness, access, cultural understanding and trend intelligence concerning global diversity best practice while also attentive to compliance requirements and protocols, program and vendor coordination, and management and tracking of key metrics.
The position will report directly to the CHRO and be based in either of Cabot’s Corporate US (Boston) or European (Schaffhausen, Switzerland) offices. The position is a member of the Global HR leadership team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of company-wide diversity and inclusion initiatives, tools and processes focused on the development of a diverse workforce in alignment with diversity strategies to achieve global business objectives.
  • Partner with business and human resources leadership in the design and implementation of strategies and tactics to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce; collaborate with human resource sub-functional areas to ensure practices and policies are aligned to diverse and inclusive organization objectives.
  • Lead the global framework development for affinity/employee resource groups and local diversity and inclusion councils including ongoing communications; oversees the alignment of work plans; supports the start-up of new groups.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of global diversity and inclusion issues and trends; educate others on the team and across the organization on diversity and inclusion issues; coach and mentor line and corporate human resources on diversity and inclusion issues and trends.
  • Responsible for establishing uniform measures across the company to report our progress and results
  • Cultivate partnerships with community members, community organizations, and suppliers aligned to our diversity and inclusion objectives; support global business and HR leaders in their efforts to do the same.
  • Develop and deploy informational and educational programs, training and services focused on diversity and inclusion and the business case for this effort.
  • Assist with implementing social media strategy for the organization and ERGs.
  • Develop and implement methods to assess diversity and inclusion strategy effectiveness.
  • Conduct ongoing research on best practices and recommend strategies for continuous improvement. 
  • Interpret business needs and requirements to identify appropriate information needed for diversity and inclusion analysis on internal and external demographic data (e.g. analytics to support reports, outcome realization, and return on investment). 
  • Maintain and coordinate quarterly D&I Steering Committee meetings, support Employee Resource Group meetings and other diversity and inclusion events.
  • Ensure compliance with government requirements, review industry surveys and benchmarks. Gather information for annual corporate sustainability report. 
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor degree in human resources, business or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 6-10 years of work experience required with at least 3 years’ experience as a diversity and inclusion leader or in a leadership role with clear/explicit responsibilities for diversity and inclusion. 
  • Experience supporting diversity and inclusion efforts across a global organization, particularly a manufacturing organization, strongly preferred.
  • Must be: hands-on, analytical, results-oriented, comfortable with ambiguity, highly organized, organizationally savvy, able to work independently with very little supervision, and a team player who can function effectively in a highly matrixed environment at all levels of the organization.
