Working with a staff of two, the College Benefits Committee, Retirement Committee and CHRO, the Director is responsible for the benefits portfolio of the College. Portfolio includes a two fully-insured medical plans with 700 employees, a retiree medical program with 180 participants, a 401(a) plan with estimated liability of $55M and an R2 class 403b plan administered by TIAA-CREF.

  • The incumbent works with the College population on major benefits programs and initiatives and is the primary HR contact for retirees on benefits issues.
  • Daily administration of benefits includes responding to employee/retiree inquires, resolving billing issues, and the oversight of monthly audits.
  • The incumbent manages project deadlines, and improves processes.
  • Compliance is a large part of this role. This includes: Timely submission of annual filings, such as the Form 5500 Annual review of plan documents and summary plan descriptions Disbursement of required notices Knowledge of the ACA and its requirements from employers Annual audits of the College's Defined Benefit plan and Defined Contribution plans.
  • The Director is responsible for developing and planning annual benefits-related educational and wellness programs, the annual wellness fair, and flu shot event.
  • In addition, the Director will oversee the Compensation function, which includes a point-factor evaluation system for 100 support staff positions and a market-based system for 500 professional positions, responding to major annual surveys accordingly.
  • As part of the HR management team, the Director has a leadership responsibility for the HR function at the College.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree plus five years benefits experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience. At least two years of leading an office or benefits function, or being a benefits consultant to an organization with at least 500 covered employees. Experience administering 401a, 403b/401k plans and completing an associated independent audit, or being a consultant who worked with clients in conjunction with an audit.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in related field or CEBS certification. Previous work experience in HR in a complex organization such as a higher education institution or medical center. Six to eight years progressively responsible experience administering benefit programs. Two years administering market-based compensation programs. Experience administering point-factor programs. Experience managing a professional (non-exempt) staff. Experience administering programs involving labor unions.
