CIG is a seeking an Director, Benefits to join our team in its Bethesda, Maryland office. The Director is a member of the corporate strategic benefits committees and manages employee benefits, including the 401(k) Plan, for CIG and its participating employers. He/she is shares administrative responsibility for health and welfare programs with CIG holding companies. The Director is responsible for managing all of CIG’s broker, benefit provider and auditor relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following but the individual will also be expected to perform all the duties necessary which are customarily performed by a person holding this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Establishes and maintains strong professional and productive working relationships with CIG’s brokers, benefit providers, and auditors; responsibility for monitoring their performance and managing the relationships.
  • Actively participates on CIG’s benefits committee and works with the committee and broker to ensure all benefit programs are competitive in our market, cost effective and meet company goals.
  • With internal legal consultation, executes all benefits documentation, such as plan documents, amendments, policies, etc. Maintains files that meet compliance regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, the provisions of ERISA, HIPPA and ACA. Files returns and reports as required by law with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. Maintains current knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and implements changes to maintain compliance.
  • Provides census data to solicit providers for bids, as requested.
  • Implements new providers, new plans and modifications to existing plans.
  • Prepares announcements and disseminates pertinent information to employees.
  • Maintains effective internal controls over processes and transactions under areas of responsibility and ensures confidentiality of information. 
  • Manages benefits related internal/external audits.
  • Establishes and maintains strong, productive working relationships with all internal benefits, HR and HRIS personnel.
  • Leads open enrollment which includes preparing enrollment materials/presentation, updating the HRIS for open enrollment and conducting open enrollment meetings.
  • Maintains enrollment records for all plans. Sends files to benefits provides. Runs reports as necessary and when requested.
  • Schedules and conducts new hire benefit orientations. Counsels new employees on benefit plan options and provisions to enable them in making informed benefit decisions.
  • Reviews and approves benefit invoices. Investigates and resolves problems involving delivery of and payment for services to benefit plan providers and other issues that may arise.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to handles benefits inquiries and troubleshoots complaints made by employees and facilitates timely resolution.
  • Manages, promotes and evaluates the wellness program.
  • Prepares and distributes annual Total Compensation statements.

 Education and Work Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience managing and administering 401(k) and Health and Welfare plans; self-funded plan experience highly preferred
  • SHRM Certification preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of DOL, ERISA, HIPAA, Section 125, ACA, etc.
  • Highly proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong HRIS experience; Ultimate Software/UltiPro experience preferred
  • Experience working with employees in remote offices

 Language Skills

  • Excellent English language written and verbal skills
  • Professional presentation skills
