The Corporate Benefit Programs Director is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing benefits and company programs, along with providing expertise with compensation incentives, that enables the organization to attract, motivate, and retain top talent as the employer of choice. Key components of this role is to focus on delivering competitive health, welfare, compensation and retirements plans, maintain them in good working order for employee use, and enhance the education and accessibility aspects for the DPI end user.    The Director, Benefits Programs must project a positive image to DPI customers (internal and external) and ensure fully functional operation of DPI’s benefits and company programs in a manner that adheres to DPI policies, procedures, and expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates, manages and administers innovative, compelling benefit programs in a fast-paced environment.  Validates that benefits programs are competitive and equitable, and that the programs are aligned to strategic corporate goals.  Makes sure programs are current with regard to trends, practices, and costs.
  • Develops, plans, and administers the company's benefits programs, including health and wellness, insurance programs, income protection, retirement plans, sick leave, time off, and vacation policies.
  • Partners with all functional leaders to establish, build and maintain strong relationships across the organization.  Ensures that all benefit programs support the organization’s strategic objectives.   Develops and efficiently delivers comprehensive programs for managers and employees.
  • Oversees the execution of the renewal recommendation process and Open Enrollment process for benefit programs, including market analysis, plan design, cost modeling, system configuration, strategic planning, project management, education, and communication.
  • Collaborates and builds relationships with external brokers, vendors and consultants to assist in benchmarking, analysis, plan design recommendations and implementation of various health & welfare, compensation, retirement plans and other related programs.
  • Manages the Corporate Benefits and Company Programs team providing guidance and overall direction.  Other responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training departmental employees.
  • Acts as full administrator of 401(k) plans and other applicable retirement plans, including union or pension plans.
  • Responsible for compliance and financial reporting requirements of the health & welfare, compensation, and retirement programs; help prepare government filings, plan audits, and other tax reporting requirements.   Compile periodic reports for senior leadership team.
  • Maintains high level knowledge of federal and state legislation influencing benefits and compensation programs.
  • As a project lead, oversees leave of absence programs administration.
  • Works as a business partner to leadership on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs.
  • Develops and leads regular analysis and assessment of market data, industry trends, and best practices to create market competitive reward packages.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain clean work environment, which may include picking up trash or cleaning spills.
  • Other duties may be assigned to fulfill DPI’s objectives.

Work Hours: The work schedule is 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.  Start times vary.  Work hours and shifts are subject to change depending on operating business conditions and needs.  The employee may be required to work overtime, holidays or weekends.

Physical and Mental Demands: Sedentary, exerting up to 10 of force occasionally and/or greater than a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Know and follow proper office safety protocols.  Understand and follow DPI grooming, hygiene and dress code requirements, including appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) for safety compliance. Understand, retain and apply benefit processing knowledge to participate in corporate benefit initiatives and service delivery.  Demonstrate expert knowledge of benefit operations for DPI compliance with local, state and federal requirements to optimize DPI organizational and employee performance.  Perform advanced mathematic functions, analysis and writing skills to accomplish designated benefit management functions.  Demonstrate excellent ability to manage time, multiple daily/weekly/bi-weekly activities as well as monthly/quarterly/annual activities and concurrent special projects to meet distribution and corporate benefit deadlines.   The employee is expected to be reliable, dependable and punctual with work schedules, shifts and hours.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:The position requires strong leadership, organizational and communications skills and knowledge in the following components:   employee benefit plans, including life, health, dental and disability insurances, retirement plans, and leaves of absence programs.  Excellent project management, business analysis, organizational skills, time management and communication skills required.  A Bachelor’s Degree required; minimum of 5 years’ experience required in benefits management, including compensation and company programs oversight, with 2 years of supervisory experience managing a team.  Proven experience creating and managing innovative, compelling benefits and company programs in a fast-paced environment; skilled at interpreting business needs and making decisions based on emerging priorities.  Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data and trends into key insights and recommendations; financial prowess and ability to build and manage budgets, build predictive and projective models, full understanding of equity practices, accounting and taxation.  Proven ability to track, prioritize and drive to success multiple concurrent projects; demonstrated expertise as an executor, with strong operational background.   Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across multiple levels of an organization on key compensation and benefits topics; excels at openness and flexibility with internal clients, balanced with maintaining consistency in total rewards philosophies and practices.  Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills.  Highest level of integrity and management of confidential information.  Ability and desire to work strategically as well as hands-on.
