We are looking for a Compensation & Benefits Manager to join our team at our Elmwood Park, NJ location.

As an overview, this position is responsible for Managing the development, implementation and administration of all compensation and benefits policies, programs and practices for Agfa U.S MainCo.

Evaluate all compensation and benefit programs and recommend plan enhancements and/or modifications consistent with the company’s philosophy and financial objectives. Ensure that all benefit programs are understood and communicated to all employees and retirees. Provide advice and counsel to senior management to ensure compliance with federal and state governmental requirements regulating benefit plans and compensation programs.

 Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Work as an internal business consultant with senior management to develop compensation programs compatible with the culture of the organization and consistent with the strategic direction of the business on a short term and long term basis.  Provide advice and counsel to management on compensation issues that impact the operation of their business and its employees.
  • Oversee administration of all executive compensation programs for Agfa North America including deferred compensation, supplemental retirement plan (SRP) and management bonuses. 
  • Oversee all Agfa active and retiree benefit programs.  Conduct research and recommend new programs, enhancements and /or modifications of existing programs to Senior Management.  Communicate and implement enhancements to benefit programs to maximize employee understanding and appreciation of all changes. 
  • Oversee the selection of vendors for outsourced services and products.  Negotiate with vendors on fees, services and performance standards.  Ensure that employee benefits are delivered accurately, equitably and cost effectively.  Resolve with vendor’s employee complaints related to the company’s benefit plans.
  • Oversee Agfa’s annual salary administration process.  Develop non-management salary structures based on analysis of local market data.  Provide recommendations to HQ regarding the annual merit increase allocation.  Develop and distribute salary increase guidelines and supervise the merit planning process. 
  • Provide statistical analyses and reporting to senior management on compensation and benefit spending.  Ensure that Agfa’s programs are competitive with the market place, cost effective and enable the company to attract and retain high calibre employees.
  • Provide advice and counsel to employees regarding their benefits programs.  Interpret Plan Documents, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD’s), policies and procedures.   Participate on the Agfa benefit administration committee (BPAC) to review ERISA claims and ensure that all employees receive equal treatment under the benefit plans.
  • Oversee the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) to ensure accurate recordkeeping, reporting and database management for Human Resources and payroll.  Recommend enhancements to improve the systems capability, improve productivity and to assist in compliance with governmental regulations (e.g. 401(k) compensation and deferral limits).  
  • Participate as a key member of acquisition teams. Analyze compensation and benefit programs to develop effective employee integration strategies and ensure that Agfa’s financial interests are not compromised.
  • Ensure the uniform and consistent application of the evaluation process, assignment of anchor profiles, management classifications and job titling guidelines in accordance with Corporate governance procedures on a company wide basis.



The incumbent should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with Certification in the Compensation (CCP) or Benefits (CEBS) field desired.   


  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Human Resources Management with specific expertise in the design, administration and legal requirements of compensation and employee benefit plans.  The incumbent must possess thorough knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures as well as a detailed understanding of the company’s benefit programs. 
  • A strong working knowledge of the Hay job evaluation process and market pricing is essential, as is the ability to readily identify compensation problems and propose sound, logical solutions.  The incumbent must have knowledge of federal and state regulations governing compensation and benefits issues (FLSA, COBRA, ERISA, Section 125, Section 401).  Working knowledge of PPACA (health care reform act). A high degree of analytical thinking is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills are essential.   Strong working knowledge of PC’s and related software 

Specific Skills

  • The Head, Compensation and Benefits serves as a primary internal resource for both management and employees.  As such, the position has a responsibility to ensure that a balance is maintained between employee issues and concerns and the financial and strategic interests of the business group and corporation.  As the internal expert this position has broad freedom to act in the resolution of compensation and benefit issues.
  • This position plays a critical role in the development and implementation of comprehensive compensation plans, programs and administrative procedures for Agfa and in providing guidance and counsel to management on these programs.  The position must ensure that all programs are administered consistently and uniformly across the company.   The position is also responsible for maintaining Agfa’s compliance with state and federal governmental regulations to avoid potentially costly litigation and fines.
  • Frequent interaction with outside consultants, legal counsel, vendors and benefit carriers is necessary to design, implement and administer cost effective benefit plans which comply with constantly changing governmental regulations
