Position Summary: The employee benefits specialist position administers the various employee benefits of the company, assists employees with benefit enrollment and questions, manages all insurance billing and maintains database and files.

Essential Functions:

  1. Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision plans, accident, disability, life, 401k and any other benefit plans offered by employer.
  2. Administer and processing of all employee enrollments, changes and terminations, ensuring the accuracy of effective and term dates, benefit coverage approvals, discounts, premiums, etc.
  3. Processing of required documents, EOI applications, disability illustrations, etc. through the employees and insurance carriers where indicated, ensuring accurate record keeping and proper documentation.
  4. Administer, coordinate, maintain and communicate with Alliance and Everything Benefits regarding EDI feeds with the benefit carriers.
  5. Coordinate and communicate with payroll administrator all benefit changes for any benefit premium adjustments for manual entry.
  6. Conduct benefit orientations and explain benefit enrollment system. Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. Ensure distribution of required employee notices.
  7. Maintain employee benefit system and ensure benefit changes are entered appropriately. Process and upload documentation to employee HR file where indicated.
  8. Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, both employer and employee. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  9. Process new hire, termination and dependent age out COBRA reports for terminated employees within the first three business days of the month and send information to the COBRA department.
  10. Administer COBRA elections systematically within the benefit system and with the carriers.
  11. Process benefit termination packets within the first three business days of the month.
  12. Assist HR Team Leader in obtaining statistics and information in renewal process of any health, life and retirement plans annually.
  13. Assist HR Team Leader in completing miscellaneous benefit reporting requirements, including monthly new hire and termination reports for the wellness team.
  14. Maintain benefit premium spreadsheets for employees on unpaid leave. Communicate with the employee and the payroll administrator upon the employees return to work for accurate processing of back premiums.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years’ experience in employee benefits administration preferred
  • Commitment to continuous learning
