Expertise and Leadership

  • Design a long-range, multi-year vision for Alliance employee benefits and wellness programs.
  • Develop specifications for new group benefits (including health, dental, vision, life insurance and retirement) plans or modifications to existing plans to maintain Alliance’s competitive position in the education industry.
  • Analyze and curate employee benefits information and statistical and census data for insurance carriers and Alliance management.
  • Develop communication tools to support employee understanding of Alliance’s benefits package; design materials for benefits orientation, open enrollment, and summary plan descriptions.
  • Supervise the Benefits Assistant, and provide benefits expertise to both the immediate Human Resources Team and the larger Alliance executive leadership team.

Project and Systems Management

  • Ensure integrity and timely processing of all benefits transactions, along with accurate recordkeeping of these; document administrative procedures and policies; evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency as necessary.
  • Supervise tracking system for enrollment, application, and claims records for all benefit plans.
  • Perform monthly billing reconciliation of all plans; work closely with Payroll and Accounting & Finance to ensure accurate employee deductions, expense allocations, and timely payment of invoices.
  • Lead and manage annual open enrollment process; plan, schedule and execute open enrollment events.
  • Develop and implement employee safety program; coordinate and facilitate safety trainings to minimize employee exposure to injuries.
  • Manage and monitor progress of all workers’ comp claims, including ensuring the timely reporting of all employee injuries.
  • Review and ensure compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to employee benefits.

Customer Service and Problem Solving

  • Handle all benefit inquiries and complaints, and work toward a quick, equitable and courteous resolution.
  • Provide exemplary customer service support to internal and external stakeholders (e.g. school site employees, carriers, vendors, etc.).
  • Serve as primary contact for carriers and third party administrators.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, business administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in Benefits Administration, with at least one in a supervisory capacity.

  • Understanding of the nuances of urban school environments and school culture
  • Successful record of working with HRIS systems
  • Deep knowledge of filing and compliance requirements (both adopted and pending) affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, SECTION 125, Workers Compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and drive toward results.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a customer service oriented attitude and approach when dealing with all stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker who has developed scalable systems and infrastructure where none exists
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to translate strategies from plans to action, and to implement them with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to drive goals, strategy and decision-making
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a customer service oriented attitude and approach when dealing with all stakeholders.
