Currently, Meijer is looking for a Benefits Manager. Responsible for thought leadership in the design and implementation of health and welfare benefits strategy and policies for the entire company.  Provides research, benchmarking and competitive intelligence around program strategy and design.  Ensures cost goals are achieved.
Key Deliverables:
  • Partner in the development and maintenance of a comprehensive health and welfare strategy that incorporates consumer-driven health principles and ensure effective cost containment and overall value to team members and the company.
  • Manage the design, implementation, compliance and administration of employee health and welfare programs for union and non-union active employees.
  • Provides research, benchmarking and competitive intelligence around program strategy and design.
  • Ability to develop/work with vendors to provide key performance measurements to the business.
  • Works with vendor partners to develop analytics to improve measurement of healthcare costs and plans effectiveness.
  • Use Health and Welfare experience to develop and present ideas for improvement; measures and analyzes Benefits data to improve plan effectiveness, build efficiencies, and proactively enhance the delivery of the Health and Welfare function.
  • Manage benefits vendors; collaborate with internal partners in Labor Relations, Legal and Finance to assure quality, efficient service delivery.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.  CEBS or other certification a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in benefits function with strong technical understanding of benefits program design, management and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of benefit laws and regulations.
  • Retirement plan design and administration experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical ability with an understanding of financial business concepts related to benefits programs including self-funded and insured, underwriting, etc.
  • Proven project management and organization skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel. Strong problem solving abilities, excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information.
  • Experience working with payroll/HRIS systems, including queries and reporting.
  • Confident, clear and concise communicator.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interface with all levels in the Company.
  • Flexible, creative, team oriented, and results-driven.
