Downs Energy, a well-established, stable company, seeks an Experienced Part Time Benefits Coordinator.

 

This is a part-time position, with flexible hours, Monday to Friday, with the opportunity to lead into a full time generalist position.

 

We are searching for a sharp, energetic, and professional Benefits Coordinator that will also oversee our company-wide training records database (reports to the HR Manager). The ideal candidate will be experienced in benefits administration, leaves of absences, and supporting employees with a high level of care. This person must be exceedingly well organized, able to take direction, and able to work independently with little or no supervision. The ability to interact with customers and employees (at all levels) in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, is crucial to this role. A high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality is a must.

Position Description

 

Human Resources and Benefits Administration:

  • Assists Human Resources by distributing health benefit materials for new and terminating employees and during open enrollment

  • Assists with the maintenance of the employee health insurance, life, disability and Cobra benefits, including annual evaluation and analysis of new carrier/plans, conducting of open enrollment and resolution of employee inquiries

  • Assists with maintenance of the 401K and profit sharing programs

  • Assists with maintenance of the Flexible Spending Account program

  • Enters Time Off Requests to the Master Calendar

  • Assists Human Resources by distributing packets and processing paperwork to employees taking various types of leave (FMLA, PFL, Pregnancy Leave, Disability, etc.)

  • Prepares seminars and meetings designed to inform employees of company benefits and other related incentive programs

  • Processes monthly benefit invoices

  • Processes benefit changes and conducts monthly audits

  • Assists Human Resources in obtaining and evaluating statistics involving any benefits related to the program

  • Attends workshops and seminars in order to remain current on benefits administration, compliance issues, and training programs

  • Maintains employee files while ensuring both accuracy and confidentiality

  • Assists Human Resources in the onboarding process of new employees

  • Assists with the coordination of employee team building programs and events including charitable causes, Company newsletter, Years of Service Program, All Company Meetings and events, and off-site outings

  • Assists Human Resources in the preparation of payroll and corroborates payroll hours

  • Provides Payroll Administration backup to HR Manager

  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Training Records:

    • Coordinates and oversees the Company’s training programs

    • Interacts with departments to map out training plans and needs

    • Interacts with departments to choose appropriate training methods

    • Seeks out departmental training opportunities and follow up from reviews for training needs

    • Maintains required employee trainings and overall company trainings

    • Maintains training records

    • Other duties, as assigned

 

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Assures compliance with applicable local, State and Federal laws, rules and regulations; maintains current knowledge of changes and modifications of laws

  • Participates in continuing education to ensure adequate knowledge is maintained

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others

  • History of strong work ethic and attendance

  • Treat people with respect; keep commitments; work ethically and with integrity; uphold organizational values; accept responsibility for own actions

  • Current California driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities

  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, personable, and professional

  • Two to four years of related experience and/or training, PHR or SHRM-CP preferred
