JOB SUMMARY:

The benefits and compensation specialist acts as the subject matter expert for the organization and is responsible for full benefits administration including health and welfare, retirement planning, leave coordination, and wellness program. The benefits and compensation specialist supports all employees as it relates to benefit enrollment, maintenance, and COBRA. The employee will support compensation and activities to aid with hiring, market adjustments, salary surveys, and annual processes while providing ongoing support to the Director, Talent and Performance Management.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and Organizing

  • Conducts annual open enrollment including plan design and implementation in coordination with third party administrator
  • Holds benefit fairs to communicate annual benefit changes for employees
  • Leads corporate wellness program including chairing wellness committee and organizing regular wellness related activities
  • Participates in annual salary adjustment analysis

 Analytical and Critical Thinking

  • Participates in completion of salary surveys
  • Performs market analysis on ad hoc basis
  • Identifies compensation discrepancies and recommends solutions
  • Assist with job descriptions and FLSA reviews, job pricing and classification, annual merit and open enrollment activities.
  • Identifies appropriate salaries for new hires to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity

 Checking, Examining, & Recording

  • Audits and submits all invoices for benefit related expenses monthly
  • Maintains and processes all tuition reimbursement requests
  • Conducts annual 403b audit and related activities
  • Administers all leaves of absence including FMLA and disability
  • Manages workers compensation claims
  • Processes employer health savings account contributions in accordance to policy

 Communication

  • Responds to employee inquiries regarding benefits accurately and timely
  • Participates on the retirement plan committee and takes minutes for all committee meetings
  • Partners closely with finance to communicate payroll deductions and leaves of absence
  • Participates in new employee orientation to present benefits information to newly onboarded employees

 Workplace Computer and Equipment

  • Maintains benefits information in HRIS at both the plan and employee levels
  • Responsible for entering COBRA information into third party system in accordance with regulations

 Compliance, Policy, and Procedure

  • Maintains compliance with ACA standards
  • Responsible for all ACA reporting
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws including benefit-related regulatory requirements, including ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, DOL, IRS and other applicable regulation
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding compensation related practices including FLSA and collective bargaining agreement
  • Responsible for completion of EEOC reporting and OSHA reporting
  • Works with third party to complete health and welfare 5500
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining compliance notices, posters, and notifications at all sites

Requirements

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of benefit related regulations including ERISA, COBRA, and IRS
  • Understanding of compensation practices and regulations including FLSA
  • Excellent organization skills

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field
  • 2+ years experience in the analysis, design and/or administering benefits and leave
  • 3+ years experience in the analysis, design and/or administering compensation
  • Experience with HRIS system (ADP preferred)
  • Familiarity working with a collective bargaining agreement
