Benefits is responsible for administering the university’s benefit programs, including health and welfare, retirement and tuition remission benefits. Benefits Administration also conducts employee benefit orientation, education, and enrollment of all programs for new employees to GW.

Job responsibilities include:
Lead retirement program (includes retirement savings plans and retiree benefit program) activities, processes and projects

Conduct annual audits, True Up and Non-discrimination testing in addition to ensuring all plans are administered in accordance with the plan documents and in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsible for maintaining data integrity of retirement savings and retiree benefit programs. Partner with Payroll to ensure proper retirement plan processing, required adjustments.

Support Benefits Accountant by responding to retirement plan audit inquiries, supporting preparation of retirement plan financial statements, Forms 5500 and data gathering for post retiree benefit valuations.
Responds to retirement plan and retiree benefit related inquiries from vendors and HR/Benefit professionals and faculty/staff timely.

Works closely with the Faculty/Staff Service Center on operational procedures related to plan administration and other inquiries
Maintain Plan Documents and SPDS, works with external/internal counsel as needed to resolve legal and compliance issues
Manage annual compliance notices. Manages vendor and consultant relationships, in addition work with vendors to establish service level agreements and monitor performance to university and plan participants.

Develops reporting surrounding retirement plan enrollment statistics
Serve as staff to the Retirement Plan Investment Review Committee, responsible for setting meeting agendas, tracking tasks outlined in the RPIC charter, support RPIC members in gathering data to support the overall long-term retirement plan strategy

Responsible for developing and maintaining process workflows
Maintains retirement plan and retiree benefit files and contracts as applicable
Prepares, coordinates, delivers and distributes retirement plan and retiree benefit communications in conjunction with Benefits Communication Specialist.

Conducts effective needs-based, one-on-one consultations.
Meet with Retirement Plan participants and those thinking about retirement to review Plan features, retirement planning, retiree benefit offerings and other financial wellness topics as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Must be able to adapt to a constantly changing environment and be deadline driven
Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities
Ability to assess situations and information, think creatively, devise better ways of doing things and/or innovative solutions, and make good judgments in the execution of job responsibilities;
Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations as they apply to benefits programs and processes, as well as related to applicable state laws, along with the ability to apply that knowledge effectively to ensure compliance.
