Associate Vice President for Human Resources Service and Strategy

This highly visible position will be leading the way on implementing a new HR partner and service delivery model. The role will be key to focusing on the employees that make ISU a great university. Those employees, over 16,000 people, would be supported in some way by the new service delivery model and impacted by the strategies and practices enacted by this position. This position will have a direct impact on the overall employee and candidate experience at ISU.

ISU is embarking on a new way of delivering HR services with the implementation of Improved Service Delivery (ISD) and Workday as a cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Polices are being revised and modernized, classification and compensation is being restructured. ISU is undergoing transformational changes and this position is instrumental in setting up the new service model for HR while ensuring the smooth transition of HR services with minimal disruption. Over time this role will evaluate customer feedback, service metrics, and ensure the overall strategy and design is continuously optimized for leveraging Workday and supporting the unit missions.

This role serves a liaison and feedback mechanism between the senior leadership of the university and University Human Resources functional experts, ensuring alignment of the HR strategy with the mission and needs of the Senior Vice President’s and their divisions. This position will also directly support the departments included in the President’s and her division.

This position has oversight of the service delivery team, from the Senior HR Partners to the HR Generalists providing front line services. The success of the team hinges on this role’s ability to listen, engage, and empower this team. The team will provide valuable front line advise and support to senior leaders, supervisors, and employees; which will require ongoing functional training and daily support. This position is responsible for the consistency and effectiveness of the HR service delivery team and should be able to outline training and development plans, monitor performance, and find ways to challenge and engage the team in the larger strategy.

This role is the conduit of organizational feedback on the overall HR strategy, polices, practices, and procedures. This role will work with University Human Resources on necessary changes to match the organization’s needs. This role is also the conduit through which the overall Human Resources strategy, policies, practices, and procedures are executed throughout the institution. The service delivery team is much more than transactional support. They are a direct, local line of support designed to improve the overall employee experience and improve employee engagement. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of related experience OR Master’s degree and 8 years of related experience OR a Ph.D. and 5 years of related experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of large, complex organizations, such as public higher education institutions, and familiarity with diverse jobs and classifications.

Demonstrated knowledge of compensation structures, employee benefit programs (self-funded and insured), collective bargaining, performance management and retention strategies for large complex organizations.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of audiences on issues generating conflict or requiring collaboration.

Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire HR professionals at every stage of development and help them establish career goals and develop skills and opportunities for growth in knowledge and experience.

Demonstrated ability to lead and work as a member of a team, particularly other administrators and those reporting to the president and senior vice presidents.
