Primary Function: The associate director of human resources is responsible for effective leadership, specifically to identify, design, implement and measure employee training and development programs which align with identified university priorities. Participate in implementation and development of positive employee relations practices in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources. Oversee performance management across campus and coordinate HR policies and programs to align with University goals and objectives. In addition, the position works closely with the Director of Human Resources in evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs, functions, activities, and government compliance.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Partners with division and department heads; Center for Leadership and others to continually assess training needs and develop or identify training programs or resources that address performance gaps and succession needs

2. Collaborate with senior administration on succession planning; employee relations; recruitment; compensation; learning and development strategies; diversity initiatives and enhancements to the work environment; and projects as assigned

3. Oversees performance management program. Proactively engage and advises the campus community on the importance of performance management and development

4. Assess current learning and development programs and develop and implement creative and innovative training solutions, using a variety of techniques needed to meet the development and succession planning needs

5. Audits and ensures compliance of federal and state laws and mandatory training requirements

6. Oversee HRIS, benefits, programs, and staff in these areas

7. Ensure compliance with University policies, procedures, requirements and applicable legal regulations

8. Manage and provide leadership with employee relations, ongoing and new human resource projects, and maintaining government compliance in human resources

9. Work in conjunction with director on managing departmental budgets to meet the goals of the University

10. Lead change processes to create a culture of productivity and engagement

11. Seek efficiencies and recommend improvement in processes and systems

12. Provide specialized research, data analytics, and reporting to inform decision-making

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, in a human resource management or business related field

Experience: 7-10 years of progressive HR experience preferably in higher education

Job Related Skills: Analytical skills, including complex problem solving; solutions oriented; strong communication skills, both written and oral; negotiating; project management; computer (Microsoft Office, etc.); Banner experience; employee relations; presentation ability; conflict resolution; time management

Licenses/Certification: Prefer SHRM CP or SHRM SCP
