The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC), Human Resources.

This is a senior leadership position that will be responsible for managing, shaping and designing short and long strategies in the areas of Compensation, Data Analytics, Vendor Management, HR Compliance and HR Operations functions. This role will have initial responsibility for the start-up of a shared service center within OHR. The leader works closely with Finance and Information Systems (FIS) to ensure HRIS systems exceeds the needs of the Pitt community

We are looking for a talented, high-impact, strategic HR leader who can lead the day-to-day operations of these functions, while also seeking to optimize service delivery, improve and cultivate standard processes and drive a culture of innovation, success and recognition.The successful candidate will have proven leadership and management experience. Other demonstrative competencies include: a customer focus, ability to manage complexity and cultivate innovation, a strategic mindset, results-driven, strong collaboration, proven success in optimizing work processes, interpersonal and organizational savviness and a driver of engagement.

This individual will provide a broad range of strategic leadership to the organization and will be an integral member of the Human Resources Leadership Team. They will work to ensure programs are well understood, administered equitably, competitively aligned to market, in full compliance with local, state and federal regulations, and are within budget. They will also play an instrumental role in supporting the HR department's successful implementation of strategic and operational initiatives, along with taking the lead in providing oversight to HR's systems, technology, and compliance programs.The future incumbent will oversee and develop strategies to utilize technology and human capital data to improve efficiency and accuracy, streamline administrative processes, and enable the organization to better make informed decisions via predictive and analytical data.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, and/or Finance with 10 to 15 years of progressive HR experience
  • 5 or more years of managerial experience
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience in working in a highly collaborative environment where leading through influence and servant leadership is essential
  • Gains insight into customer needs, builds and delivers solutions that exceed customer expectations
  • Integrates contemporary and progressive HR theory with practice
  • Strong HR expertise with proficiency in multiple disciplines within HR; along with the ability to understand the interdependencies of those disciplines
  • Anticipates future trends and implications, is able to link HR solutions with organizational strategies and goals- Cultivates innovation by creating new and better ways of making the organization successful
  • Demonstrated competency and experience in areas of compensation including job evaluation methodologies, market evaluation and legal/regulatory implications
  • Must have comfort level with benefits strategies and implementation
  • Demonstrated competency and experience in areas of HR Operations including HRIS systems and implementation, large scale project management, process improvement methodologies, and audits
  • Strong leadership, relationship-building, communication, negotiation, influence, organizational, and project management skills are essential
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-generational, shared governance environment
