The University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor and Program Chair of the Human Resource Management Program in SPCS. The position is a twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure track position with responsibility for oversight of the Human Resource Management (HRM) degree programs, teaching and advising students in HRM, conducting a scholarly agenda for eligibility of promotion, and School and University service.

The initial appointment will be made for a probationary period of up to three years at the Assistant Professor level, to begin no later than August 1, 2020, with opportunity for subsequent reappointment in five-year increments. The appointment provides for full faculty status in SPCS and University of Richmond with opportunity for advancement. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in a discipline related to Human Resources; a juris doctorate will also be considered. Candidates must demonstrate a successful record of teaching in a higher education setting with a clear interest in adult and continuing education; experience working with undergraduate and graduate students; practice in, service to, or understanding of the field of human resources; and demonstrated leadership abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • teach 5 courses annually;
  • serve as chair of the Human Resource Management graduate and undergraduate programs;
  • provide oversight for the content and curricula associated with the Human Resource Management graduate and undergraduate programs;
  • provide oversight for the quality of instruction, including selection and supervision of adjunct faculty;
  • interface with staff in the SPCS Enrollment Management and Student Services area and the University Registrar for development and implementation of course schedules;
  • actively engage in community outreach, community engagement, marketing, and recruiting;
  • provide assistance in developing and monitoring budgets related to the HRM Program;
  • develop and establish new courses, some of which should be online or hybrid, to respond to market forces and demands of adult learners;
  • assist in advising students in the HRM Program;
  • pursue a scholarship agenda in one or more of the following areas – human resource management, adult learning theory, inclusivity and equity in institutions, data analysis for strategic management, labor and employment relations or law, or in a related area/field;
  • work collaboratively with faculty in other academic programs in SPCS and with faculty in the other schools at the University;
  • serve on SPCS and University committees, as assigned; and, Assistant Chair
  • carry out other functions as may be appropriate to the position and the HRM program.
